The playoffs are different but you can't totally dismiss the fact a team is better at home then they are on the road. That can very easily carry over into the playoffs.
What tangible evidence do you have to suggest it will change? - JoeRussomanno
The playoffs are a different level all together. There is no guarantee the Flyers will play better on the road either. So when each game counts more than the regular season I would rather have the advantage of being in front of my home crowd for more games but thats just me. If they play on the road so be it but I would rather have home ice advantage if possible. |

They were unbeatable for a month or so...they just look sloppy of late.
Like today, they seem to be doing themselves as much damage as the Pens are. - Jsaquella
Their the defending champs and until someone beats them in a seven game series I have to respect their game. Still a good team just not anything close to last year or what they were doing earlier this season.
Here is my favorites in the East:

You're still not answering the question of why it would change. Yes it's a whole new level but it doesn't necessarily mean you play better at home all of a sudden. The Flyers had success in 2010 playing without it. Why should it matter now? Like I said earlier trying to catch the rags and pens for another meaningless banner isn't conducive to long term success in attaining the real goal. Besides they had the second seed last year look what good that did. |

Has nothing to do with hanging a division banner. Its about getting home ice no matter what your record is (home/road). Why would a team want to play a seven game series on the road? If this is the case then Bob should start today bc they dont care about winning the division or getting home ice. They played the ECF in 2010 on home ice verse Montreal.
Whos to say they wont play better at home than on the road come playoff time? |

I think they should concentrate on playing the best hockey they can for the rest of the season, and where they land in the standings is where they land. Then they take it from there.
The key is peaking at the right time and taking that play into the playoffs, and right now they're on the right track.

+1, in my mind it's not even about having home ice or not. It's about a team staying motivated, staying on a roll, and carrying that into the playoffs. |

Icing on the cake, as it were. I'm fairly optimistic right now, the Flyers picked a damn proper time to start putting it all together. |

Harry Zolnierczyk has been recalled by the Philadelphia Flyers. He will not be available for today's Phantoms game at Worcester at 3:00.
Interesting. Would think they would want Shelley in the lineup since the Devils dress Boulton and or Jansen. Guess not. |

This is the time when you want your players playing their best hockey. The Flyers are doing that and the goaltender is playing lights out. You dont pull the plug on that bc you have a chance to get home ice (even though they have a better road record). |

You in the Ice Bar or Fire thingamahoochie? They're really good. And have fun. I was there and sat in the first row for the first time. It was really cool. - bodiva88

Hey guys, just got back from spring break Vaca in Cuba, and I see that Bryz has been completely on fire. Fanstastic. I'll admit, I was worried all year that Bryz wouldn't figure it out, but catching up on the games looks like Bryz has been giving us what we paid for. I can't remember the last time a Flyers tender has had 3 shutouts in 4 games along with a 2 goal win and 37 saves vs the Wings. Maybe Bryz just needed to have more work to get into the groove. If he plays like this from here on out, then I think a lot of fans will forget about the struggles.
Also, amazing goal by Roo last night in the SO.. |

Pens are starting to look really damn dangerous. May take the division.
Flyers will have a damn hard time in round 1 against them or the Rags.
Would almost be better to fall to 6th. |

Can't fear any team. Just keeping winning hockey games and let the chips fall where they may. In order to reach the goal they are going to have to beat good teams. Might as well start beating them early. |

While I think thats true I think the Flyers could really use a series like they had against the Devils in the Finals run.
With Timonen, Meszaros, JVR and possibly Sestito available near the start of the playoffs a series against a team like Florida could be a god send.
It's all about matchups. |

Totally agree. I know it is not comparable in level of play, but even in my hockey league, it's not the team that finishes the highest seed but how you are playing going in. Last year, we were the 3 seed, got on a roll in the last few games, won a very close 1st round then steamrolled the 1 and 2 seeds. Basically, got on a roll, and the momentum carried us through. Also, look at Boston last year.
I love seeing the Rangers struggle, their whole reg season could be for naught if they play terrible down the stretch and into the playoffs. |

I hear you. If Winnipeg were to get the # 3 seed, that wouldn't be an easy series at all. Jets have played very well against the Flyers this year, and they have on hell of a home ice advantage. Washington and Florida might be somewhat "easy". I think they have to just try and win every game they play and let the seeding take care of itself. |
