It made hockey my #1 sport again. The only reason it dropped to #2 was because I could actually play baseball around here in South Jersey. Hockey wasn't an option. - Flyskippy
Tons of place to play....it might cost you selling your kidney on the black market, but hey who cares you have two right? |

WIP or as I like to call it EBN(the eagles broadcasting network) sucks at covering hockey...They are horrible go off what the beatwriters write...with that sad the true fans are in here arguing and discussing team matters every day in mostly intelligent way. - Philly1980
Hate to break it to you, but this isn't the only forum where Flyers fans talk puck. I've been to [edited due to not mentioning the competition] (other sites) and it's much the same everywhere.
The intelligence level in here HAS dropped - and not just because Butsy has fled to Twitter. |

The predominant use of steroids ruined its integrity. The multiple coverups, etc. and home run races of the 90's which were obviously helped by steroids. So, I mock it more for the reaction of my good friend, Crims, than anything else. Also, to curry favor with Davies.
It's much like I still like football (AKA soccer, as opposed to throwball), but cannot get past the diving that mars its integrity.
I don't really hate baseball. I hate what steroids did to it.
I caught a Ryan Howard baseball at a game a few years back. Still have it. - Flyskippy
ya fair enough. really was so bizarre how the entire country (media, fans, myself included) kind of just put the blinders on and allowed itself to get swept up in the sosa/mcguire race that year. what a mess |

Jimmy Rollins caught grief for saying the fans weren't into a playoff game last fall. And he was right! - Flyskippy
Have to give them something to cheer about. Like getting a hit Jimmy. |

Actually though Jsaq with Schmidt he could be a real Richard off the field. My father witnessed him chase off two preteen kids at a department store in Cherry hill in the early 80's who were children of family friends. He was really rude and told them point blank when they approached him in the checkout line "to get away". Stuff like that actually did add fuel to the fire with that particular guy. Back then there wasn't internet and social media. I bash the crossing broad guy for that phony story on Bryz because the source is nameless and faceless but I am not a nameless faceless source. Otherwise you have a point about the fanbase, it's too much of this sound like an imbecile to sound smart epidemic that was is bred at the temple ofWip like skippy said. Anyway I have to bounce if you guys want to know more about that incident hit me up on pm . leights - JoeRussomanno
Sure, Schmidt was a strange dude, and bordered on being kind of a Richard. But the lore of Philly sports fans was always, "They'll love you as long as you bust your ass on the field"
Hell, Pete Rose was a huge bumhole and he's beloved here. |

Yep. Bryz is goofy, so when he struggles, it's obviously because he's a goofball and not working hard. Donovan McNabb obviously doesn't care because he smiles on the field.
Wilt Chamberlain was loved-and is loved now-in Philly, and he was a very lazy player at times. - Jsaquella
I have a hard time with the sports culture in the area. It's entirely possible to be emotionally invested in and passionate about your team without victimizing "the guy". It's a widespread case of people who can't healthily deal with anger, and it's often alienating. |

Since we have such a passionate fanbase, we should be able to cheer in the face of anything, to help inspire the team. |

poop game last night. Not going to win them all.
Serious question though. If it ends up being the Flyers in the 5th spot, which team would you prefer to face? Pens or Rangers. I'm not going to lie, personally I want the Rangers. That is a completely unproven playoff team and we are so (frank)ING due against them.
Let's go Flyers, get a win on Tuesday! |

If the Canadian dollar ever gets back to where it was when the Nordiques and Jets first moved, then simply being a team in Canada with a rabid fanbase wouldn't matter.
NHL salaries are paid in US dollars, for every team, be it Phoenix or Vancouver. But Canadian teams take in gate revenue in Canadian dollars. If a team like Winnipeg is getting 68 cents for every dollar, they will struggle. - Jsaquella
And it's far more likely that Bettman (when he finally concedes) relocates the Phoenix franchise to Seattle, than to Canada, IMO. |

I know exactly why fans are the way they are, and I think that is a pretty lousy way to be a fan. Look at Mike Schmidt. He was probably the best third baseman in the history of baseball and people HATED him in the city he played in. You want to be that kind of fan, I want little to do with you. - Jsaquella

I was able to watch the 2007 playoffs, some of the 2008 season (good omen, I guess), the 2009 playoffs, and then not much since. I want to be excited for the 2012 Phillies, but I can't manufacture the excitement like I used to.
Also, my second team in baseball was the A's. Hate seeing them draft well and lose players to other teams because they can't afford them anymore. My great-great-grandfather played for them when they were the Philadelphia A's of the American Association. |

It's no different than Flyer fans chanting Crosby sucks in fact what our brethren do is worse - JoeRussomanno
Yeah i guess your right. I for one never yelled crosby sucks because...well he doesnt. Lol. I am def guilty of saying worse things about crosby and others though haha. Im not into being that drunken loud offensive guy at opposing buildings. It just makes us look worse then our already tarnished reputation. |

Exactly. What was weird to me was when Jason Giambi showed up at spring training 1/3 the size he was the year before. I lol'd and facepalmed at the same time. |

Unless a guy is truly a bad actor off the field, or his off field behaviors are hurting his on field play, then I don't care about his personality. Now a guy like Bryz who is a character and makes me laugh...sure I like his personality...but as long as he's winning, who cares about his personality? |

Blame the fanbase? How does the fan base sitting their quietly make them look bad. They tried to cheer the team multiple times but if you cant get something started its kind of hard to keep cheering during a baseball game imo. |

Im not gloating. Simply pointing out the Devil's curse. Boring, despite their game plan. Besides its a slow day at work and your attendance jokes are entertaining and original. How could i possibly leave? - WayneZ
Wayne, they are boring. I'm sorry that you take it as a slap in the face, but it's true. If I were showing hockey to a group of fans and trying to entice them to watch the game, the Devils would be one of the last teams I would show. They slow down the game to the point I want to rip my eyes out. Plus, there is ZERO atmosphere in that building. In fact, it really made sense that the Flyers showed up flat. It was basically a home game with all the let's go Flyers chants and we all know how the boys play at home this season. |

The A's will be luckily to still be in Oakland in a few years. Serious talk about moving them to San Jose. |

He wasn't. The test was invalid because of the way it was handled. And if you can't trust the testers, you can't trust the test. |
