I think your being a little harsh on our fans... Its not like we go out an riot after playoff loses or anything. Its not like we throw rats and octipus on the ice and disrupt the game... - RooNosHockey

Just curious. He was historically a top goaltender in PHX, and came to Philly, played a bad first half, and is now playing up to snuff again. Why are you assuming that the first half Bryz is the norm; as opposed to the PHX/2nd half Bryz? I get that it's only been a handful of games, but he's shown before that he's a top-flight goalie. - steelydan
Do you want the truthful answer or a cliched answer? Truthful answer is I'm worried about his emotional state in this city. It takes really good players a while to adjust to a big time city. Look at Carlos Beltran (I'm a Mets fan). He hit 16 homers and 65 RBI's his first year. To top it off he was boo'd mercilessly and he had mentioned numerous times in the papers he was trying to figure out how to play in New York. Cities like Philly and New York chew up these guys that succeed in obscure cities. Often times it takes them a year or two to fully grasp the pressure. I will admit that during the stretch where he couldn't stop a beachball and he made his I need to find the peace to play in this city comment I had amnesty all over my mind. However, I think his current play is more a symbol of what Bryz actually is as a goalie, but I worry with douche's like Sam and Tim causing trouble when there isn't if he is able to emotionally deal with the pressure. |

I didnt know people were calling themselves the tenth man on the field. If that was being said then I agree with you. During the playoffs the fans get nervous and started to stand still. The fan base didnt see anything that could change what was going on in the field. - stveshdy
I think that's the image Philly fans hold themselves to. Anyway, you can say it wasn't wrong of them to be silent. I won't agree, but I'm not going to outright call you wrong. I will, however, maintain that Rollins was absolutely correct in his assessment, the Phillies crowd that night was uninvolved, moreso than the length of a baseball game typically entails.
On a similar note, if you'd like to contend that Rollins has a track record of making controversial, perhaps unnecessary statements, I wouldn't call you wrong on that. I may even agree I don't like it. I give him credit, though, his unneeded quotes are only so cutting because they do carry the weight of truth. |

Doesn't speak to the fan's loyalty. Not going to a game is sending management a signal, that you aren't going to fund the lack of a product they're putting on the field. They're still going to tune in (as long as the game isn't blacked out) at home like they always do. - steelydan
So, THAT is what is going on in Newark. |

I find the conjecture in the bolded section ridiculous.
Math is happening to Bryz; he's getting closer to his "normal" numbers. Comparing him to a baseball player is... odd.

I'm not talking about NJ, nor was I ever. This was in response to a poster mentioning that the Flyers fan-base is the most loyal in Philly. I'm stating that Eagles fans are more loyal. |

I actually don't have a problem with what Rollins said (just see it two ways). My only statement back to Rollins is this team cheers all year long and supported you. Your going to pick out one game and talk about how they didnt cheer? My only point is your the player and the team needs to spark the crowd with their play. If you cant manage to get on base or create anything I think its unfair to get on the fans about their cheering. Im sure 40,000 people would of loved to been waiving towels and getting their team excited its just hard to do in baseball unless you can get on base. |

Hm, over my head then. Sucks for the Devils. They put a good product on the ice every year, but the fan-support just isn't there. And I think it has little to do with playing style. Even with a more exciting style of hockey; when there aren't fans to cheer, there aren't fans to cheer. |

They have to build up that fanbase, so the investment probably wouldn't pay off for at least 5 years. |

Everyone loves a winner. So whoever is doing well in the city gets love from the fans. Every single year you have people who either jump on/off of the bandwagon. It happens and I understand why they do it. |

There's fault on the players, for sure. I'm just disappointed the one Phillies playoffs game I've attended was a no show for the fans, a game where the team did try to get it going and couldn't, a game when a spark was sorely needed.

I'm just disappointed that their bats go quiet in the playoffs. They have too much talent to struggle to score runs. The series changed however when Cliff Lee couldnt close out a four run lead. That was the turning point in the series last year. Did your hot chocolate come with marshmellows? |

I think most fans are frontrunners. There I said it. They all want a winner. As you see here on the blob, it's the same folks and overall we have one thing in common and that's the passion for the team we root for...
In regards to how Philly fans act, it's driven by how you are brought up, what influences you have to draw you to this game and what you do to pass the time learning this game. If you leave it up to the media and don't go outside the box, then yes...your views will be skewed.
Most of the time the media is on witch hunt alert...
remember also this is a fan base that eagerly accepts a fat guy dancing...we might as well make him our mascot. The great dancing pumpkin...if you want to call what he does dancing.
We even boo anyone and everyone even if it's for a Cancer Awareness. |

The loss of offense is disappointing, definitely. The turning point was, without a doubt, Lee faltering. I have to give the fans on October 2nd credit for this, though, they gave him an ovation when he was pulled. This instance stands in contrast to many points made today.
There were no marshmallows. This is, perhaps, the greatest disappointment of all. |

Tell that to my Dad and his brothers who have been watching them religiously with season tickets and have never seen them win a thing. - FrankDrebbin
In the mid 1980's the Eagles would be blacked out on local TV because they failed to sell out home games. They have had sustained success under Reid, but two or three 5-11 seasons in a row, and people will bail. |

I think the Philly fans get a bad wrap imo. These players travel all around during the course of a season. Im sure if you compare the fan base here to other cities they would find it much better to be here. People come out and support their Philly teams whether that is good or bad. I think in the perfect world you would have people always thinking positive but thats just not reality. You will always have bad fans in your fanbase but that doesnt mean your fanbase is bad. - stveshdy
Sometimes the Philly fans DO get a bad rep. Sometimes, they live down to that bad rep. |

Only the Flyers had the worst season of their existence just 5 years ago and the fanbase didn't drop off. They still packed the building, fans believed in Homer when he took over, and the message boards were still talking puck, hoping to see a good effort each night. |
