Finesse has nothing to do with being soft. Giroux is elite with the puck. He can make pretty much every play there is to make. But he is not what I would call a finesse player. Carle is a finesse defenseman. Carter was a finesse forward. Briere is a finesse forward. - MJL
I'm not certain I'd put "Carter" and "finesse" in the same sentence. Ever |

Or Briere. I mean Briere goes to the Dirty areas and also has a mean streak... Well he used to anyway.... |

Youngblood was a finesse player. Dean Sutton was not. Duane Hewitt was a bit of a mix. |

Comcast changes your IP on a six-week cycle. At my office I have a static IP. |

To me Finesse has nothing to do with his personality, and more to do with the way he handles the puck.... But according to you i guess that makes Giroux a power forward? - RooNosHockey
He's a hybrid. He has the hands and shiftiness to play a finesse game but the attitude and physicality to play a physical game. He's not going to throw thundering checks; he isn't big enough. But he certainly doesn't float through like a butterfly. |

Are all state named teams bad? New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, (I consider the Rangers the city) Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Carolina Hurricanes (though no North or South), Colorado Avalanche..... |

I disagree with the "half the fun" part. I became a fan of the team, not to become part of a club. My dad had partial season tickets for years until he had two kids and started to run his own business, working 10 - 10 Mon. - Sat. He worked in the store below our apartment. When the Flyers would score, Dad would bang the ceiling with a broom and my brother and I would bang the floor with a Bobby Clarke replica stick.
I don't care how many other fans are out there. The Flyers are MY team. I need no one else, to be honest. It's cool when there are fellow fans, but too many fans are sheeple at the Temple of WIP or too casual a fan to not know that the articles written by Panacchio, Carchidi, Seravalli, and the like are rather devoid of actual hockey knowledge. A generation has passed now that did not learn hockey from Gene Hart - or someone who could TEACH the game like he did.
I would rather have 3 Cups and a mere 5,000 passionate fans if it meant I got to celebrate the Cup with hockey fans and not asses or imbeciles who feel rooting for a team is their right to broach the law by intimidating other teams' fans, acting like slobs, pretending that they are Andrew "Dice" Clay at games, etc. There is a serious difference between the fanbase that existed prior to the most recent lockout and now. Many fans' hearts and patiences wore out and the new breed of fan is less knowledgeable, more emotional, and certainly less sober-minded.
I grew up to love hockey and appreciate the sport, with the Flyers being my #1 team. I am now at a point where the game itself has been emasculated by its most predominant league and the values of its fans have gone to the crapper.
I'd rather talk puck with WayneZ and many others who are fans of other teams than most of the Flyers fans online. - Flyskippy
Leight I know, but this is one hell of a post. Well done sir.

I'm concerned about the defensive injuries. Mez not skating yet and supposedly was seen limping around the facility today. Kubina hopes his upper body injury isnt too serious and is seeing a doctor today. Timonen has the back issue which is always scary.
The struggling to score is a direct product of these guys missing in the lineup. |

I've lived in and around Philly for all but 4 of my 39 years of life/
I know exactly why fans are the way they are, and I think that is a pretty lousy way to be a fan. Look at Mike Schmidt. He was probably the best third baseman in the history of baseball and people HATED him in the city he played in. You want to be that kind of fan, I want little to do with you. - Jsaquella

pretty much. the D is doing less, which until yesterday, is leading to less goals against and less goals for. |

The OHL has a strict no headshots rule, so the hit was in violation of that. Under Rule 48 in the NHL, I think that it would have gotten a game or two. Unlike Voracek, Yakupov didn't turn at all(however slight the turn was) immediately before contact. His head was down for bit and he didn't make an immediate move to make himself more vulnerable - Jsaquella
Here is a recent one for the OHL, Dougie Hamilton the player picked right behind Couturier got 10 games for a head shot. The CHL as a whole takes a hard line stance in this area.

I disagree. We support Giroux. But I was talking about Philly in general, not just Flyers... But your right about the perception part... For example... Chase Utley "is the man" Aaron Rowan..."For who? My teammates. For what? To win," These guys cant do anything wrong, no matter how bad they get... They are Philly guys... While Ryan Howard works just as hard and isnt as beloved... Jimmy Rollins is a punk IMO. I dont like his attitude, but he is a good player... - RooNosHockey
I usually agree with these arguments regarding Philly fans, but Utley noticeably plays the game harder than Howard. It's not even a question, and Chase is the Man because of that.
He's also been the superior player, but let's not open up a can of worms here. |

Comparing apples and Oranges. Both players play the game hard in their own way.
