Hayes is a condescending douche. Reminds me of Bill Conlin. He has that, "I am superior to you in every way and Im not afraid to show you" demeanor. When he is on DNL I basically turn it off. - MBFlyerfan

Again it will come down to him and his preference. Will he go to Columbus, or the Icelanders, for $4.5, or take less to play in Philly. Will it be worth it to him to make maybe a little less and have a chance at a cup every year. Or make more and finish in last.
Not saying this WILL happen or that those teams will even make offers like that. I am just relying on human nature in that, when you are talking about that kind of money, a little less to win would be my choice every time.
Again this is just an opinion. Based on my own competitive nature. - MBFlyerfan
That's the one variable that you can't really tell. What does the player want. Grossmann may love it here, and be willing to take less then he can get on the open market. It doesn't happen a lot. But it does happen.

I thought since he's a RFA it's a matter of the FLyers making a qualifying offer. - JoeRussomanno
A Qualifying Offer if Voracek accepts it would result in a one year deal. Voracek doesn't have to accept it. He can also file for Arbitration.

Bryzgalov's "cold" demeanor with the media is all a big, calculated act. As Timonen said last night (and Bryzgalov himself said on 24/7) when asked for the umpteenth time about Bryzgalov's personality, Bryzgalov puts on one face for the media and another in the locker room among his teammates.
Right now, I guarantee you that Bryzgalov is having more fun playing the "I don't want to talk about me" game than he did during the months while the team PR guys were assigned to stand guard and limit his media availability time so that he didn't say the "wrong" things.
He's playing great, his teammates now have a world of confidence in him and the more he scowls and ducks as many interviews as possible, the more he's more or less left alone to stay in his zone.
Not a bad tradeoff when the results have been so dramatic on the ice.

how do you think he would fare in arbitration? Personally I don't see him doing better in arbitration than what the qualifying offer would get him. |

I wonder about what Voracek re-signs for.
I bet there will be a large difference between the starting points between the team and the player's agent. - Marc D
I was just about to say the same thing.... I could see a Giroux type deal but maybe, hopefully not, a JVR deal.
Not fully related but interesting: Don't look now but Carter has 7 points in 9 games with the Kings: http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8470604
2 points behind Voracek with many less games (20 goals in 48 games). Richards still doing the small things but not contributing on the scoreboard as of late.
Edit: Of course the most important thins is that the Flyers are locked in the POs in the East while LA is 10th. They are still very much in striking distance being tied for 8th. All teams in the West competing for that 8th place are playing well while San Jose is dead in the water (sorry for the pun). The West PO race is as good as it gets. |

He would do much better in arbitration most likely. A Q offer would only be a 10% raise.

Bill, would it be possible at one point maybe after the season is over, for someone to get an interview with him where perhaps some real questions could be asked like "Was there a change in his approach?" "What if anything did you work to improve with his game?" etc. None of this so when you shower do you do so with a bag over your head so your team mates see your shame. While on the road do you have to sleep in the hotel closet because no one likes you?
I find this season of his very perplexing as a fan and think that a real learning experience could be made of it.

I know its a percentage of the player's current salary or predetermined etc. However I don't exactly know how an arbitrator goes about awarding other than evaluating a player's performance. How exactly they do that I imagine is going off his statistics. Voracek isn't exactly Steven Stamkos so I'm not sure what an arbitrator would give him. |
