Uh NJ is not ahead of philly and Philly isn't included because we are talking about teams ahead of them. Furthemore Ottawa is in like 7th place. By upper echelon I mean teams in the first 5 seeds. - JoeRussomanno
You eliminate 3/4 of the league by saying top 5 seeds. Cmon now. That is beyond skewed. |

I think it had nothing to do with games played and everything to do with the team and goalie playing well at the right time mixed in with a little luck and good fortune. - funmaster18
I hate to break it to you but Luongo was gassed in the last two games of the finals. His coach knew he was overworked and tried starting Schneider in game 4 against the blackhawks which blew up in his face and that was the first round. |

It's not skewing anything. The teams overplaying their goalies right now are doing so because it's play or die time. Which just so happens to make up a big majority of that list and is why you see so many ahead of Bryzgalov. Last year and the year before Bryzgalov would have been up in the top 3 of that list because the yotes had to play him everygame through March and april just to make the playoffs. Which come playoff time was their downfall. |

You aren't breaking anything to me, I think your whole argument is flawed. First it was no goalies can wins cup with 60+ games, then it was how many goalies wih that many are in the playoffs, then it was how many are "upper echelon" teams. I think every goalie is different and you play each according to their own ability. |

Think so? The official word, as I recall, is he's down with the flu. Then again, it is that time of year. - BulliesPhan87
I knew there was a physical reason why he didn't play. But as I recall now, it was listed as the flu. |

I thought Luongo did what he's know for in big games... faltering. I didn't know it was because he started more than 60 games. |

With today's conditioning I think goalies don't need to automatically have a day off with back to backs. That said Bryzgalov is on pace to play in 60 games. That's not a bad number.
You want you're #1 guy to play between 60-65 games. The more they play the sharper they are.
Also I consider Fluery an elite goalie.
That is all..... |

We should start Bryz right at 59 this way his chances of winning a cup are better cause anything over 60 he has no chance at winning a cup. Nashville is screwed cause Rinne is at 63 already. |

In the 30 games Flyers have won w/ Bryzgalov starting (Bob got one W in relief), he now has a 1.90 GAA and .933 SV%. That doesn't count the 0-0 shootout loss to the Islanders.
Bryz's SOL shutout vs. NYI and the 1-0 loss in SJ improved his stats in 19 team losses to a 3.47 GAA and .865 SV%. But the splits are still dramatic.
If Bryzgalov plays like the guy we've seen the last two weeks, the Flyers can beat any team in the East. Of course, the numbers above also reflect team play. - bmeltzer
The numbers do reflect the team Bill. Imo it also reflected the team when Bryz's numbers looked bad early on. He's a good goalie but if the team isn't playing on top of their game He won't carry them for long stretches. Only what we saw recently because yes, Bryz is playing better but not so much more that it should make this much difference. The team's increased attention to defense is as equally responsible for the recent play as is Bryzgalov himself.
Furthermore its why I think all this starting him everygame is overdoing it. The team is playing better defensively, Bryz has his confidence back, no need to overwork him going forward. Yes Start him both games this weekend but let that be it for all the back to backs. He needs to be fresh for the playoffs and you can burn him out fast here if they aren't carefull. |

I'm just stating fact there isn't an argument. No goalie starting over 60 regular season games has won a cup since 09 and that was Fleury with Crosby and Malkin playing in front of him. That's a trend whether you like it or not. Can it happen that a goalie will do it again? Sure but I hate to tempt fate and find out. |

Get back to me if Rinne wins a cup then. Furthermore doing the samething over and over and expecting different results is insane. By starting Bryz over 60 games and expecting him to light it up in the playoffs is in fact doing the same thing over and over then expecting him to do differently than what he did with phoenix. |

Also, have you figured out how many of those goalies were bounced in the first round? Surely that wouldn't be a fatigue issue. Sometimes teams don't win, that's just what happens. |

You know his reputation in recent years, whether deserved or not, he's tended to come up small in the NHL playoffs. Most of the stuff above is ancient history. And apparently the play of a goalie on any team with Crosby doesn't matter, so the that gold medal doesn't even count. |

I don't know where you keep getting this idea that anyone said to start him more than 60 games? Hes currently at 49 so the way I see it is they have 10 more games for him to start the rest of the season. Im all good with starting your best goalie back to back this weekend. |

Stanley cup winning goalies since the lockout and their starts
Ward= 28
Giguere= 56
Osgood= 43
FLeury=62
Niemi= 39
Thomas=57
SO as you can see, maybe you don't that's more than 2 years. |

THe first round is outside of the scope of my argument. I'm not worried about the first round, I want to win a cup. |
