Stanley cup winning goalies since the lockout and their starts
Ward= 28
Giguere= 56
Osgood= 43
FLeury=62
Niemi= 39
Thomas=57
SO as you can see, maybe you don't that's more than 2 years. - JoeRussomanno
And the reason that every other goalie lost was because of fatigue ad playing more than 60 games? How many goalies lost that didnt play 60 games? I guess the number of games played isn't always the reason for failure or success.
Not many goalies play that many games because they aren't good enough to.
BTW you mentioned 2009 which is why I said 2 years. |

I don't know where you keep getting this idea that anyone said to start him more than 60 games? Hes currently at 49 so the way I see it is they have 10 more games for him to start the rest of the season. Im all good with starting your best goalie back to back this weekend. - stveshdy
The only real issue I have had with anything your saying of late is this whole Idea of he's had plenty of rest. That is just not the case. Plenty of rest would be like 30-40 games. I don't want him playing that few of games either, but you're making it sound like he should be able to play every game from here on out. That just isn't so. |

It's not the end all I'm just pointing out a trend that is contributing to something. YOur taking what I'm saying and making assumptions and running away with it. |

He has had plenty of rest when he currently sits at 14th TOI compared to other goalies in the league. Thats a fact. |

I didn't realize I was beating the "don't let him play too much" drum the past week or two. You've made your point clear, IMO. |

Or maybe the Flyers are a better team than Phoenix - eayost
They are a better team, but Bryzgalov's performance was compounded by the fact he was fatigued. He admitted to this himself over the summer. |

Just because he's played a certain amount of minutes compared to others doesn't make anything a fact other than he's played less minutes. It does not mean he's had plenty of rest. I could just as easily say those other goalies are overworked. |

Also, have you figured out how many of those goalies were bounced in the first round? Surely that wouldn't be a fatigue issue. Sometimes teams don't win, that's just what happens. - funmaster18
for the fun of it I looked up the last 15 cup champs - well the 12 before the last 3 which were already stated. Note this is games played not games started
07-08 - Detroit - Osgood 43 - Hasek 41
06-07 - Anaheim - Giguere 50, Bryz 27
05-06 - Carolina - Gerber 60 - Ward 28 (and as we know Ward took over the #1)
03-04 - Tampa Bay - Khabibulin 55, Grahame 29
02-03 - NJ - Brodeur 73
01-02 - Detroit - Hasek 65
00-01 - Colorado - Roy 62
99-00 - NY - Brodeur - 72
98-99 - Dallas - Belfour 61
97-98 - Detroit - Osgood - 64
96-97 - Detroit - Osgood 47, Vernon 33
95-96 - Colorado - Roy 39, Fiset 37. but note that Roy started the season with Montreal. he played in 61 games that season |

I'm sure it played a small part but the big reason is he faced the Red Wings back to back. Lets face it Phoenix doesnt have half the skill. |

I'm done with it. Bryz needs to play down the stretch and Bob will get his three games possible more if they clinch a seed. |

YEs Detroit outclassed them but even you just conceded fatigue played a part with Bryz however small. Let's say the Flyers get the Pens or Rags. Which looks very much like a possiblity. All three teams are in the same neighborhood skill wise. Do you want your goalie being even a little fatigued before the playoffs start? By the last two rounds, all goalies will be fatigued. Whoever has the most gas and talent left has the best chance. All I'm saying is give the team the best chance to win. Overworking your goalie is not conducive to winning and playing him 65 or more games is overworking him. |

I have to take Bryz word for it if thats what he said. But you have to take in account that he played in the upper 60's for three straight seasons.
Bryz, Lundqvist and Thomas are all around the same numbers. Not an issue imo. |

Get back to me if Rinne wins a cup then. Furthermore doing the samething over and over and expecting different results is insane. By starting Bryz over 60 games and expecting him to light it up in the playoffs is in fact doing the same thing over and over then expecting him to do differently than what he did with phoenix. - JoeRussomanno
I think there are umpteen variables that make that skewed. Such as he's not on Phoenix anymore, he's on the Flyers. |

Depends how things are the last 2 games of season. If we are set and can't move up, he'll get rested |

There are different variables however the amount of starts is a big deal no matter how much people don't want to admit it. |

YEs and the Rangers scaled back Lundy's starts this year for a reason. |

I'm more worried about how they are playing than what place they end up in. Home ice is over-rated especially for this squad. |
