Come on Dee,,,Nino is an absolute bust, no signs of growth the entire season...he's afraid to hit,,,has no NHL shot...just another bust. The who should be moving around, like moving out is Capuano.

The Post had a good article about the Islanders today...how irrelevant they are. Ownership and Management bad, drafting bad...outside of the first line the team stinks. He was very impressed with Nino. Brooks was spot on...he should write about how bad they are every week. Maybe the Islanders management team (?) will wake up.

Montoya made some great saves....except for on the second goal....which is typical of the reason why, as a first round pick, he was a bust. He simply cannot move....at all. Dare I say, even Ricky would have stopped that one. Of course, Rick would also have been in at least three other situations where he was doing snow angels with his head facing center ice, while the Canadiens shot pucks into an empty net, but I digress...

In spite of that....I think one solid, veteran defensive defenseman, and one top end all around defenseman would make this team really, really good. I still say that Milbury f**ked this up so badly, we are still paying for that. The problem is, there are some Islanders fans who don't even really remember Milbury, and I get that, too. All I can say is this- imagine having a neatly sheet rocked wall, which you are allowed to freshly paint a portion of, each draft day. Now imagine that the boss comes in after you paint it, kicks holes in it for no apparent reason, and then uses a potato cannon to shoot spackle across the room, in hopes of filling the holes. That's basically the extent of the reign of error of King Milbury I, in a nut shell. This had to be rebuilt from worse than absolute scratch, and we're still at the point where no one wants to sign here, because it's still a work in progress. Until these kids start to gain enough confidence to start at least making the dance, we are going to be in the same boat.

Again, in 2006, we were WORSE THAN AN EXPANSION TEAM, because expansion teams don't start out with cr*p that they need to get rid of. It's a long, slow process, and it is what it is. Is Wang a bit nuts? Of course- I'd imagine that MOST wealthy people have a bit of megalomania...Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys thinks he's a NFL GM, for another example...but that's not the WHOLE reason this team has gone through such a barren period....it's not anywhere near MOST of the reason, in my view...and don't tell me about Mike Milbury's book with Alan Hahn's name on it....don't want to hear about it, sorry...

I agree with not spending money... this is a major downfall on Wangs part.

But drafting is a crapshoot... they are 18 year old kids, you don't know how they will develop.

Like telling him to run the Isles like a pro team by hiring a real GM and coach and stop using the excuse of no new building to do nothing to improve the team.

I agree. I'm not going to kill the Isles for the draft. Drafting 18 year olds is very hard. I think the Isles have build up a very nice prospect list. I'm not even going to kill Wang about not having a high payroll. Wang does not get a pass for not having a strong GM and coach and for not demanding more results and for being out of touch.

I love this article. We need more of these articles. We need ex players joining in. The heat needs to be turned up. We need fans to stay away in record numbers. Fans need to say no to Elmo and Cookie Monster and whoever else is the reason for fans to show up to watch this team play.

It isn't quite accurate to suggest the Islanders are on a treadmill to obscurity, for the fact of the matter is Charles Wang’s franchise long ago arrived at that destination.

And it isn’t quite correct to state the team is on the road to nowhere, because general manager Garth Snow’s club is headed somewhere no one in the NHL has gone before since the league expanded to 30 teams in 2000 — a fifth consecutive bottom-five finish.

Not one of the 122 North American big-league franchises has made itself as irrelevant as the Islanders. The three New York City-based daily newspapers do not see eye-to-eye on much, but not one believes the Islanders are important enough to merit coverage with more than a passing glance.

The operation has become an affront to the club’s long betrayed yet still loyal fans, who are expected to carry the ever-increasing freight for a floor team that cuts corners, glories in its outsider status and hasn’t made a single stride in closing the gap on the adults in the league despite consistently favorable draft position.

With the chance in 2008 to select Luke Schenn, Tyler Myers, Anders Karlsson or Cody Hodgson, the Islanders chose Josh Bailey before refusing to allow him to play in the World Juniors his freshman season.

With the chance in 2010 to select goal-scoring machine Jeff Skinner, the Islanders chose Nino Niederreiter, who, more likely than not for cap reasons, has wasted his 19-year-old rookie season as a spare on the club bench and was similarly not permitted to play in the World Juniors.

There is no excuse this season in which the Islanders theoretically would be 20 points out of a playoff spot if realignment were in place and they played in a Patrick Division including the Rangers, Devils, Penguins, Flyers, Capitals and Hurricanes.

The Islanders have been healthy this season. Their goaltending has been as stable as it has been in years. John Tavares has become one of the 10 or 15 best forwards in the league, with P.A. Parenteau and Matt Moulson following in their 21-year-old center’s wake to form one of the NHL’s most dangerous lines.

And yet, the club has lost ground to the competition. Kyle Okposo has somehow devolved into an ordinary player at the age of 23. Frans Nielsen and Michael Grabner have gone backward. All three of those young forwards are on back-loaded contracts that enabled ownership to deal with stated cash-flow issues, and all three delivered performances commensurate to their comparatively minimal salaries.

The team has no identity beyond Wang and Snow’s shtick. There may have been a fair amount of chaos under Ted Nolan, but at least his teams always were in their opponents’ face, and the same for Scott Gordon’s teams until he lost the room.

Now there’s nothing.

They have taken the treadmill to obscurity. They are the team that doesn’t matter.

True but some things can be said for some of the things they've done there and then there's the fact that teams are suppose to help develop these 18yo kids, not throw them in and hurt their development

The bottom line is Charles and Garth are not making decision based on what's best for the team. They have even managed to make politicans look good and have made more Isles fans side with a Ranger writer like Brooks. Well done.

I refuse to read the post at all. The article is a joke. I seriously dislike Wang and Snow but i dont need to hear about it from a guy who loves every second of what is going on. When a true fan writes something about it then I will listen.

He's only writing the truth and what most around the league feel

Which like I've been saying for awhile now, THAT is the real reason players dont wanna come here, not the arena being a old dump.

Garth and Charles must love you X. How many drafts will it take for this team to be even decent? Why must we have a new building before Charles decides to be real NHL owner?
