It's a discredit to Sid, too. When he actually performs one of his tremendous feats, the excitement (or chagrin, in our case) is watered down because we've been hearing his praises sung without pause already. I suppose it shouldn't come as a surprise, though, that's just sports broadcasting. - BulliesPhan87
If you think about it...
The guy has played about 10 games in a season and a half and is now having to play catch up at playoff speed hockey. He's just finding his legs and they have a camera following his every move. People who don't like the Pens hate him for it but how do you think he feels? Would you want your every move examined for the whole world to see when you weren't at your best? The whole media angle of his return is a joke. |

pierre: "edzo, have you ever seen a star player with as much passion for the game as crosby?"
seriously. - hammarby31
Edzo: "No."

ESPN is a (frank)ing joke. I read that too and it was dispicable. It actually pointed out how they played all those games on the road. Which is laughable seeing as they went from NYC, to Newark, to Philadelphia. I'm pretty sure the Flyers did more traveling going from Philly to Boston and then back to Philly. Just need to realize, the Flyers are not THAT team for ESPN or even the NHL. Who cares? - Flyers1218
The thing that pisses me off is I dont even have a choice... I mean nbc sports network is better then espn but thats like saying the NY islanders are a better a hockey team then the blue jackets .
Why can't we get tsn in the states...even if we have to pay extra for it... |

it undermines the rest of the league as well. as if it's a shell of itself without crosby providing his nightly wizardry. |

Whatever. I don't let people ruin good hockey games for me with their complaining. If people don't understand that bad reffing is the standard these days then they need to watch more hockey. It all evens out and even with it that was a great hockey game. - canadianpenfan |

we discussed this yesterday. yes. he. is.
seriously, they could have talked about bryz's recent shutout streak and flyers record, or the addition of grosssman, or couturier and read's outstanding play. hartnell's mike bossy impressions. tons of stuff to talk about. from a flyers standpoint anyway. - hammarby31
Actually, putting on the Orange glasses, the one thing that really bugged me yesterday was a play where Malkin tried to stickhandle past Coburn, but got denied. Either Edzo or Pierre gave credit to Malkin for "even trying to make that move" yet didn't even mention Coburn, who stood his ground and played it perfectly.
Maybe it's because I've become immune to broadcasters "blowing" whichever annointed one is out there. But to praise a guy who got stopped because an opposing player made a better play...just irks me |

if you live along the northern border - at least in new england - you get the cbc on cable. i did when i lived there 20 years ago, before tsn was around. it was wonderful. maybe it's different now. |

Great game yesterday. A few points:
Kunitz: I was fine w/ the 4 min aside at that juncture. Game was too good to be decided by a power play. I thought he deserved a 10 min and league should give him a call for that excessive face wash, refusal to respect refs.
Bryz: Boy he looks locked in right now. Can't fault him for either goal, got us 3 pts this weekend.
Hartnell: Nothing left to say. Career year, doing it all, even pulling Danny B out of his funk.
NBC/NHL / Crosby: It is painful to watch NATIONALLY broadcast team and hear one sided all game. I could almost hear the drool hitting the mic from Doc + co over Crosby. I respect Crosby as a super talent, but when is the NHL going to learn that there are more than ONE super talents to market in this league? Crosby is best player when at 100%, but he's not there yet and you had 2 of top3 scorers in that game. Focus on the talent that's contributing. They created this mess and need to do better job of marketing more players. Why not Stamkos, Giroux, Perry, Neal, etc etc. You can't tell me none of them can't recite 2 lines and smile. |

It goes even beyond that though. When we played the Rangers even their broadcast team was fawning all over him. Honestly, I see why the Pens are so hated by everyone, I just don't care. |

Double minor and ten minutes would suffice. The outcome was settled on the ice. Hartnel got a nice lump/abrasion on his face and scored the game winner. If the flyers had gotten a pp there maybe they score and win in regulation.
Welcome to the NHL and horrible officiating all around. - bird_dog
Does the league only invistagate head shots these days? This act should be a 2 game suspension. To continue to pummel a guy when 2 linesmen are trying to pull you off is just a lack or respect for the player and the officials. It's not like he was doing it for a few seconds after the officials arrived and then stopped and got up, the guy was trying to really hurt Hartnell. Ask yourself if Crosby, Malkin, or Stamkos had that happen to them... What would have happened? Instant Game misconduct and a league review.... |

didn't like that, and it should be reviewed. forget the teams involved. you just can have guys doing that. |

That's being a bit ridiculous. Kunitz didn't throw a punch, his gloves didn't come off and he didn't injure Hartnell.
Uncalled for? Sure. Nasty, even dirty? Sure. Classless? Sure. Should have been a ten minute misconduct. Nothing more. |

Bill what is Malkin's rep around the league other than possibly being the best player in the league?
I think he is a dirty player and is slick with the behind the play cheap shots. - bird_dog
He has a rep for being sneaky-dirty with the stick but that when you get him to start doing that, it means you've gotten under his skin -- actually a bit like Eric Lindros was in that regard.

If he wasn't such an attention whore before then it wouldn't be as bad. You dont see the slobber fest over similar stars like Malkin, Ovechkin, or Stamkos... Sure they are highlighted and talked about more then other players... But its more about the game... When Crysby is on National Media not only talks about how great he is as a hockey player, but then massages his ego at how great he is at EVERYTHING. Its just aweful, and all Cindy has to do to make it stop is be a little humble... Don't make everything about him... Take a page from Gretzky and Lemieux... They had the spotlight on them, and I think they handled it perfectly... |

My issue is, the NHL is pulling the "all the eggs in one basket" approach...that doesn't work unless the egg is Michael Jordan. - Jsaquella
It boggles my mind. Just look at the Pens alone....Malkin has carried the team this year and letang is an outstanding dman but its still Sid all the time. |

Obviously, it's not a deal breaker for most of us, either. It's annoying, but I doubt anyone turned the game off because they couldn't suffer anymore Crosby talk |

I dont know how u can stand root sports and fsn before that, I lived out there for a few yrs during college and if I never hear any of the pens announcers again it will be a good day. Fsn was the absolute worst sports network I have ever seen. For god sakes there was more PSU coverage then PITT and it was FSN PITTSBURGH! |

When Crosby is not in the line up it just makes the announcing crew's job more difficult... because then they have to talk about the other 43 players on the ice. |
