a) he doesn't have experience in the recent past nor in a salary cap world
b) there's a difference between being an encyclopedia with a good memory and the ability to regurgitate facts and stats about players' birthplaces and junior teams and being able to manage a hockey operations department. That's like saying a guy with an MBA automatically qualifies to be an awesome manager in the business world. Just not true.
c) pretty sure Reggie Houle was passionate about the Canadiens as well, so was Mario Tremblay. What they need is competence and stability.
d) he's from here?!?! who cares?
e) premiere talent evaluator and developer? maybe. Haven';t seen any stunning record in scouting or developing anyone other than the first couple of years in the league everyone though Pronger was a bit of a bust.
f) access to the best people in the business to build a staff? like all his connections who have gotten him jobs over the past two decades? - basementfloor
g) wow

Jim effing Nill would be a prime candidate for the gig, but probably wouldn't want to leave Detroit. |

"Jim Nill has a special deal with Detroit he's not allowed to leave so the Habs shouldn't consider him"

I'd really like to comment on somebody else's prime gig, but with Howard around it probably wouldn't end well. |

he has experience, he's an encyclopedia, his passion level is unmatchable, he knows the values of the franchise and he's from here, he's a premiere talent evaluator and developer, and he has access to the best people in the game to build a staff. - EricEngels
please list the "values of the franchise"

I don't want McGuire as the GM, i want someone with experience, coming from a winning organization, someone currently involve in the game. |

Yes, Carrière as GM, and Gauthier as consultant.
Let's keep Gainey too.

who cares, if he doesn't speak French, bring in an AGM who does. It should be about winning, not pleasing the media. |

he probably turned down AGM or head of scouting jobs, without any RECENT experience as a GM, i doubt he will find a GM job. He gets paid more to work for a TV network than he would as a head of scout most likely...I am sure it had something to do with it. |

I don't know McGuire that much, but some guy who has never been GM and has been a color commentator for 16 years...I mean I fail to see why he's the prime candidate. |
