not going to turn this into a "defend McGuire" thread.

He's turned down some jobs too, but you'll deny that.

- EricEngels

I won't deny something I have no knowledge of.

Call me crazy, but reading this, it's exactly the idea most people have of Mcguire. And why most of us question why he should be handed the keys of the castle with little or no GM experience.

captain Pat Verbeek called McGuire's firing the best thing that could have happened to the Whalers. He said other teams mocked their coach. He said his own teammates had no respect for McGuire. He said a number of players wouldn't have wanted to play in Hartford anymore

I don't know McGuire that much, but some guy who has never been GM and has been a color commentator for 16 years...I mean I fail to see why he's the prime candidate.
- stinger67

He shouldn't be a prime candidate. The Habs need competence and experience. There must be a good assistant GM somewhere in the league, no?

It's like if you had put Mario Tremblay as coach and Réjean Houle as GM of the Habs. I mean, that would have been silly.

That's what I'm thinking... but for some reason, it seems the only candidates HAVE to be someone everybody knows or is currently or formerly a part of the Habs organization.

I don't have the pretentiousness (?) to say I KNOW who the ideal candidate is, because I obviously don't work for an NHL team in amagement position and don't have access to all head offices around the league, but I think the Habs should go off the beaten paths, for once.

Yes it is never a good idea to limit the pool of candidates.. makes it very difficult to pick the best person available.

Aussi, est-ce qu'on peut avoir quelqu'un avec un minimum de prestance, et d'enthousiasme svp?
