I don't think anyone here is saying that Keith's hit has any place in the game. Should he be suspended? Yes.

It's just rather ironic that you have Canuck fans calling for his expulsion from hockey, riding their high horses... when in reality Sedin had committed the same foul earlier in the game. It also seems like they forget about Burrows running around taking cheap shots at guys too.

I think we all forget though that these guys know the risks about playing the game, and get paid handsomely to do it. Hockey is a contact sport and the number one rule in hockey that you learn as a kid is you PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES.

You are crazy! A body hit with some coincidental head contact the same as a elbow directly to the jaw when a player turns to chase a puck that never even came to him at any point? Sedins hit was a tad late and that only.

Why do Leafs fans continue to troll our threads?

Hey, I lived in Toronto a few years back, dated a girl from Milton. I visited your town often. You should move to Toronto.

- Scooby_Doo

Milton what!

cuz we aren't watching the Leafs anymore.. at least for this season.

I'd say the principal point of contact was the head on Sedin's hit to Keith.

They should both get something.

Last time i checked, any infraction which causes an injury to the head is an AUTOMATIC 5 min major. I remember last year, Burrows made a questionable hit and was given 5 minutes just because the player injured his head.

Rule 48 - Illegal Check to the Head

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered.
48.2 Minor Penalty - For violation of this rule, a minor penalty shall be assessed.
48.3 Major Penalty - There is no provision for a major penalty for this rule.

You're wrong. He went through the body. That's a legal hit. The only issue could be timing. Considering the force of the hit (not great), it's totally unlikely to be suspendable.

That would cover why Daniel doesn't get anything. Here's why Keith will:

Rule 45 - Elbowing

45.1 Elbowing - Elbowing shall mean the use of an extended elbow in a manner that may or may not cause injury.

45.2 Minor Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a minor penalty, based on the degree of violence, to a player guilty of elbowing an opponent.

45.3 Major Penalty - A major penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, shall be imposed on any player who uses his elbow to foul an opponent. A major penalty must be imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent (see 45.5).

45.4 Match Penalty - The Referee, at his discretion, may assess a match penalty if, in his judgment, the player attempted to or deliberately injured his opponent by elbowing.

45.5 Game Misconduct Penalty - When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct penalty shall also be imposed.

45.6 Fines and Suspensions - When a major penalty and a game misconduct is assessed for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, an automatic fine of one hundred dollars ($100) shall be imposed.

If deemed appropriate, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).

When do you think anyone will give a poop about the Leafs again? By all accounts, they have been irrelevant since 2003-4....so I am not surprised to see you hearing chirping a team that actually wins.....
- chompsey

And what exactly would you say your team has won?

I didn't know I had to be a Vancouver Canucks fan to have an opinion. Just because I'm a Leafs fan first, doesn't mean I don't watch and follow a lot of hockey. This is the trending topic in the NHL right now. If you don't like my opinion.. just ignore it, and put back on your green and blue coloured shades.

Almost all of Danny's shoulder was accross Kieth's chest. I clearly see it over and over. It's called a body check.

It's been explained by the league in the past that it would be near impossible to crack down on all contact. Under the rules you believe exist, a player who is above average height wouldnt be able to throw body checks because the head of the shorter player would surely be contacted with anything but a low hip type check. That's not exactly a safe alternative. I'm not saying this was what exactly happened here but the league has been clear all season.

Kieth has a phone conference with Shanny. As far as I know so far, Danny doesnt. He could still get a fine but there would be a conference for any kind of suspension. I don't think he even gets a fine. I've been far less confused and surprised this season than others on suspensions. Only because I understand how they breakown the hits and the cryteria for dicipline.

The hit Daniel threw happens multiple times every single game. It's a forechecker finishing his check.

Elbow tucked, no jump, finishes a bit high (but how can you call any hit where initial contact is made with Duncan Keith's chest "high"?)... It wasn't a "headshot".

... And it might look late when you watch it over and over and over again in slow motion, but in real time that's just a finished check. Nothing more.

You people are all dumb. Open your eyes all the way. His shoulder elevates and makes contact with the jaw. Im going to lose my mind reading these Vancouver fans nonsense. Guess what? You havent won a cup so all your opinions dont mean sh*t. Take accountability. Hawks fans dont argue that Keith deserves a suspension but admit that your alien looking player threw is shoulder to the jaw of Duncan Keith. I dont understand how you blind Vancouver fans can type being as blind as you are.

Yeah right, Burrows doesn't have the reputation for being a dirty slime ball.

He's never sucker punched anyone in the face before.

- Kieran

When you say "repeat offender", it means that hes been suspended before.

Being an agitator is not repeat offending.

You people are oblivious to what happened, take accountability. I dont understand why you people think this is a clean hockey check. That was Sedin's first hit of the year so in what way is their evidence that he was "finishing" a check?
