Sedin's hit was a Kronwall on the level of clean to Matt Cooke |

as an avs fan, you guys will rarely get any sympathy from me. that being said, that hit was total bs. seriously... i rarely voice my opinions about these things, and i hope that shanny throws the freakin' book at him. this is EXACTLY the kind of thing the nhl needs to man up and ACTUALLY try to eliminate. and i like duncan keith... - jjr_1988
As a Hawks fan I actually agree with this 100%. I have 2 sons that play hockey and if someone threw an elbow as blatant as Keith's I would probably have jumped on the ice. This stuff needs to be eliminated from the game completely. I think Keith gets 2 games but if it is more than that I am OK with it. |

What a hypocrite. Sedin's hit was an elbow that caught Keith's head too. Keith's hit was worse, and should be suspended but I love how Sedins hit was a "hockey hit". What a homer. - Allstarzz
You should really try and know what you're talking about before you post.
Arms and elbows at his side, shoulder to head incidental.
Please try harder next time. |

This hit would have never happened had Sedin not given keith a head shot. If you want to go throwing those types of hits around, then don't be surprised if it comes back to you. For sedin it was the next period. |

What does it matter, the principle contact was in the head. What if Keith went down with a concussion right there? We would all be singing a different tune. The guy threw a dirty hit, and he got one back. Karma |

Didn't like either hit. Sedin should get a fine, and Keith should get a few games. Keiths was more predatory and more over the line. It was similar to Cooke/McDonough.
That was tough for me to say, seeing how I hate the Canucks and like the Hawks. |

Sedin's hit was the same as any Kronwall hit esp the one on Voracek and they were legal |

Doesn't make what Keith did right....you don't retaliate by trying to take a guy's head off with blatantly illegal elbow. You wait for the opportunity to bury him into the boards or at center ice with a legal body check. It's a cowardly play...and I am as big a Hawks fan as there is. |

I didn't like either hits, and Keiths was obviously worse and suspendable, i just think its funny this happened with 2 of the softest players in the league. Neither are necessarily dirty players. Im just responding to those who are going to be pissed that sedin may be out a while. All im saying if you don't want bad things to come back to bite you in the a$$ then don't go around looking for trouble, especially if thats not your game, like sedin. Hes not a cheapshot artist. Neither is Keith, thats what amazes me here. For example, had Kane done what Sedin did, then I would be expecting legal/cheap retaliation from one of the canucks. |

It matters because it's easier to prove that Keith maliciously raised his elbow to make contact with the face. Elbowing is a penalty—shouldering isn't. Sedin's hit was high, but you can't prove he purposely targeted the head. It was a penalty and maybe a fine. Keith's hit was far worse. |

The idea of "karma" is Stupid as it assumes the worst in people. "do something bad and other idiots out there will sink to your level." Keith
Reminds me of playing bantam hockey again. He can't take a hit without losing his temper and crossing the line. Imagine if everyone was as reckless as him and went out laying vicious elbows any time they felt they were hit with a high hit. The retaliatory part is what's scary. If 200 pound men wearing hard plastic armor are free to run around like idiots and exact their revenge like this with only getting a 1 or 2 game suspension then I seriously fear for player safety. |

After reading this blog and the Chicago blog by J.J. my reaction is: two homer perspectives by the respective team's bloggers.
The Canuck blogger is looking for the death penalty while the Hawks blogger thought Keith did what he needed to do.
Keith should get 4-5 games.
What I thought was a really poor call was the referee's only giving him a 2 minute minor for a blatant headshot elbow.

Your so absolutly biased it's almost sickening.
I have no arguement against keith getting a suspension. it was a dirty dirty play which obviously should warrant 4+ games suspension.
But to vehemently support sedin's hit to keith's face completly takes away your credibilty. |

Keith's play on this was disgusting...and has not business in the game. Clearly players are not getting the message.
BUT...Shanny needs to stick to the standard set so far...so Keith will likely get 5 games or less. It simply is not just to change the consequence mid year unless Shanny is willing to go back and reassess the previous suspensions and add more time to some of them...not likely.
BUT...this needs to be changed for next season. Garbage like this needs to hit players and hit them HARD. 20 games+...that will get players thinking twice.
The other thing the NHL needs to do is have the refs call the actual calls and quit managing the game. Sedin's hit earlier in the game...was a hockey hit...BUT he did make contact with the head...and based upon the standard called earlier in the season this should have been a 2 minute minor. While it is hard to say whether the contact with the head was intentional or accidental...and the initial contact was to the chest area...the standard is that there will not be contact to the head...there was...so should have been 2 minutes.

It should be interesting to see if Burrows get anything for dropping two INTENTIONAL knees on Keith while he's on the ice.
I doubt he'll get any games, but I wouldn't be surprised if he received a fine. |
