Their reasoning was that since the shootout is so important in the regular season and decides so much, it is stupid that it is not in the playoffs. He stated that when they are at a bar and all the games are on, when one goes to a shootout all the attention goes to that game and people cheer and get interested. Rhea The Idiot chimed in that it would be good for the casual fan blah blah blah.

They decided it should be one full overtime then the shootout.

I'm fine with the shootout during the regular season but I would be less then impressed to have the shootout during the playoffs. The playoffs pushes teams to it's absolute limits and continuous OT is apart of that.

I'm fine with an extra 5 minute OT and the shootout because I'd rather not have ties in the regular season and I'd rather teams not tire themselves out for 2 points, especially in a back to back night situation.

I believe things are fine the way they are right now and the biggest joke to me is changing the rules every year.

I'm completely against the shootout in a playoff game. I think it would be a lousy way to decide a game. But I will say one thing. Based on being a STH for a few years. The overwhelming majority of fans, love the shootout. They all stand and there is definite excitement to it. For the regular Season, I think it's good for the game, because it's good for the fans.

I look at shootout the same way as fighting. Fans easily take notice in both and all eyes are on it when it happens. I'm fine with the shootout and I'm fine with enforcers in the league. I'd prefer enforcers could actually play the game of hockey but overall, I'm okay with it.

Problem is, you still have ties. The hockey game ended in a tie. One team won a skills competition and got rewarded as if they won a real game.

I hate that they decide a winner without playing the sport.

it's a catch 22. do you want ties, shootouts or continuous overtime in the regular season? i think shootouts is a nice compromise for the regular season.

You really have to feel for Giroux. He's having a breakout season, which has been inches away from leading the league in scoring but he's always been second place to someone. Malkin had a slow start to his season but blew up. Phil Kessel had a strong start to his season but has died off. Giroux has pretty much played second fiddle to both of these guys. I'd say the only player who's been truly consistent all season long ahead of Giroux is Hank Lundqvist with the Rangers. Congrats to Malkin and everything but it's really going to suck if Giroux finishes second in scoring this season and still manages to walk away with no hardware for this year.

they need a way to settle ties, they got overwhelming feedback that sports shouldn't end in ties. i think it's the most effective and efficient way to settle a tie game. hockey is the truest of team sports and i see the objection to them. but they are entertaining and i just hate ties.

But Giroux is hitting more, blocking more shots and winning more faceoffs. Giroux does more for his team other than just score. But as long as he helps the team win the trophy that matters most to me he'll be a Hart winner every year in my mind!

I don't mind it that bad. Maybe go to a different point system then I don't know I never liked ties either but when it got down to the playoffs you couldn't duck and cover in OT you still have to go out and win. I'm lukewarm with it I guess. Don't get too up when my team wins one and don't get too down when they lose one.

I know it always comes back to money for some fans but for me, pride of knowing one of our own is the best at what he does is a pretty a good feeling, especially if our Flyers haven't won a Stanley Cup that season.

I think Giroux should still be ahead of Malking for the heart. Yes Malkin is beating him out for points, fine give him the art ross. Funny you said this today. Lundqvuist gave up 3 bad goals in the loss today. Not horrendous, but certainly bad by his standards. All on odd man rushes, but they were not tap-ins. He had time to get set and all were unscreened shots.

Unfortunately, I don't think that's how it going to go. Malkin and possibly Lundqvist are ahead of Giroux for the Hart in my opinion right now.
