I do think there is need for a change up. You have 3 cold players in Schenn, Simmonds and Briere on one line. It isn't working. I'd be for changing it up completely.

I feel we've seen plenty of line changes in the last week. Briere was playing with Voracek like a week ago and now he's been playing with Schenn and Simmonds. Changing things up right now isn't such a bad thing though, we'll see what's next. We need to find a balance.
I might be the only person on this page who isn't overly excited by our PP. Both our net presence players in Simmonds and Hartnell are on one unit. Why? |

IMO the reason they arent getting the PP's anymore is because their offensive game hasnt been doing the right things that teams would have to take penalities... One of the reasons why I think you should get a spped line and a size line together... The speed line will draw hooking penalities from speeding pass defenseman on the transition game. As long as they keep moving and dont get into hitting game... The strengh line, would create retalitory penalities for though checks and grabbing penalities for moving the puck on the forecheck.

I guess line changes might help, but I don't think that's the issue nor the sure fire cure. Not trying to put a stick in your spokes or anything, but in this case I'm trusting hot lava knows the best moves he can make here.
Those lines don't look bad, though, I'll give you that. |

If he only improves from here he will one season.
Not that Giroux will win it anyway but is he back into Hart Trophy talks? He's now one point above Stamkos in the points race and he isn't catching Malkin. - roenick97
I think Malkin pretty much has that sewn up.
Nice to hear some reporters mention Read in a Calder field with no standout winner. |

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing the flyers loose a few and drop down to the 6th spot and get the panthers first round. Id much rather watch the devils /rangers or the devils/pens play and meet the winner in the 2nd round. - flyers4487
I certainly don't want them tanking. Hate the mindset. And I'd prefer they be hot going into the playoffs. at 7-2-1 in the last 10 they are second to P'burgh in the east in hotness. (but HOTness is sadly lacking with Meszy out recuperating. ) |

Think Forsberg could be named Sweden's GM for Sochi, Bill?
If the Rangers beat the Sabres in regulation and the Capitals beat the Jets in any way shape or form, the Flyers clinch a playoff spot tonight. - Jsaquella

I think they'll find net. There's too much untapped clutchness on that line for them not to. |

He's not wearing a hoodie.
And before you hurt me, I realize that it's probably too soon.
I am hoping to get out of here tonight in time for the "Million Hoodie March" from 30th St Station to LOVE Park. But I don't have a good feeling about this distribution I'm doing. I did wear a hoodie today, though, just in case. |

I dont think its tanking as much as it is being smart...I mean I still dont get why charlie didnt throw the game to the braves But thats a topic for another day......
I do not want to play the pens in the first round...if it comes down to loosing the last 2-3 games of the season to let jersey get a head.. then im all for it, reduce our main guys minutes to give them some rest and give the young guys some more time. |

how did that work for the phillies? no one is saying they cant beat the pens, but its silly to play them first round when we can let jersey wear them out (maybe even beat them you never know) |

Lava has tried to be much better this season than last about limiting veteran minutes and giving days off/optional skates to keep guys fresh. He clearly learned from last year that his idea that you have to spend the last month playing hard minutes to get them used to it backfired in leaving him with a spent team when the playoffs started. But winning is important. Putting in a team's mind that they're better off playing such and such an opponent can backfire with either them not getting that opponent and being prepared to fail against a "tougher" opponent or having them enter a series with the "easier" opponent and being complacent. |

The Phillies had worse problems than match up. If they couldn't beat the Cardinals, they wouldn't succeed either way. That's not how a champion plays. |

I would change the Power Play for starters. I understand the numbers say we're 7th in the NHL, bluh bluh bluh but this is all based on the entire season up to this point. There are a lot of players slumping on this team and are barely involved on the PP. If we can't get Briere going now and if he's a non factor in the playoffs, I don't think anyone should be surprised. You want a balanced Power Play but we have time to find balance. I think it's time to push the players who need to be pushed. - roenick97
I think a fully loaded first unit like the one they use for a 5 on 3 might not be a bad idea rather than spreading the wealth among two.
Hartnell - Giroux - Jagr
Briere - Kubina/Timonen
Simmonds - Schenn - Voracek
Read - Carle/Kubina |
