The Flyers want either 1st or 6th
Staying in 5th or 4th place will be to much to overcome even if they win the round.

Philly should get the 2 tonight, Habs had a fairly physical contest last night against the Sens and I doubt they can match last nights offensive outburst...also doubt Philly matches the Sens complete lack of intensity, throw Budaj in there, and while he hasn't been that bad I doubt he stands on his head. I'll say 5-1 or 5-2 Philly. |

Not necessarily. The 4th/5th seed is more advantageous if you get through the first round because of how often there are upsets of at least one division winner in the first round.
Let's say Pittsburgh overtakes the Rangers and then beats the eight seed. If either Boston or Florida were to get knocked by 6/7 seed, THAT team would get the Penguins in round two and the Flyers would get either Boston/Florida (if just one wins) in round two or else be a home ice team in round two if both Boston and Florida were to lose.
The Conference Finals matchup is what is it: no matter what seed you are, you play the other last team standing in the Conference.
Barring the unlikely event the Flyers finish first, being the 4/5 likely is the more advantageous road to the Conference Finals than being the 6 --- that is, if the club can get through round one. The goal here isn't to win one round anyway.
Is it really that much better to run into the Pens/Rangers in round two (if you get that far) than round one? I don't see Washington or Buffalo beating the top seed regardless of which team it is. Might as well deal with one of them right away and, hopefully, get a better on-paper matchup for round two. |

Normally I'd agree but unless the Sabres get in, I don't see any of the top 3 getting dumped this year, Boston maybe. Philly's 1st round will probably be their toughest of the of the eastern rounds. |

It's kinda sad to see a storied franchise like the Canadians sitting in last place with only 29 wins.
Where have you gone Alexei Kovalev? - 77rams
Sad? Not the word I would use. I love it..i am basically surrouned by habs fans here and I don't hear a peep from them. |

Florida has 14 loser points and a -19 goal differential and will probs get the 3 seed.

Its ridiculous that Philly and NJ aren't seeded ahead of them and Boston for that matter. |

That's how I see it. They're going to have to beat two out of Pittsburgh, New York or Boston to get out of the East anyhow. Might as well face one of them when they are as healthy as they likely will be. |

Yeah, I've always had an issue with that aspect of the seeding. I'm fine with guaranteeing each division leader a playoff spot, but their position in their position in the top 8 should be determined entirely by points. Not automatically be top 3 |

interesting that boston was 23rd and chicago 26th that season along with the flyers in 30th. obviously boston and chicago have won cups and philly's been to the final since then. doesn't take a lot of time to turn around a franchise these days, yet some teams are always bad.
i don't like seeing montreal dead last. |
