Fluery just got blown up. I will never understand why a defenseman will push a guy in to his own goalie. Pens got very lucky he wasn't hurt. - MBFlyerfan
Before I go read the article Bill, what is up with the spelling of this guys last name? NHL.com has it with 1 "n" in their photo captions and elsewhere, but you (and others on here) spell it with 2. - rockychocbill

Bill, someone mentioned the other day that he was back to wearing one N on his jersey at some point in a recent game. Did you notice that?

Great article and bang on on your comparisons. I had thought of Ragnarsson, but Nordstrom is even closer to what Grossmann has done for the Flyers thus far.

Really hope they re-sign Big Nick ASAP. - Jsaquella
Grossman IMO is the number one priority to re-sign. I think Carle is a very good player but the Flyers need a player like Grossmann (size and physical/ defensive minded).

whichever one they lose, they'll miss the other if not adequately replaced.

On fan appreciation night, he had only one N - Jsaquella

I dont disagree. I just think if Carle leaves they have other guys who can move the puck such as Timonen, Mez, Coburn and possible Gust. If they dont have Grossmann they will lose their most physical (size as well) and defensive minded defenseman. Lavi really trust Grossmann (not saying he doesnt trust others) enough to have him out against teams top players.

I agree. There seems to be this need to choose among either player. Which I don't truly understand. It's about the mix of players. And you need both types of players. I do know that a player like Carle is harder to obtain then a player like Grossmann is. But I want them both back. Or if one or the other isn't back, then a comparable replacement. I feel that losing Carle if they don't replace him with a player of similar ability, it would be a big hole in the lineup.

I'm not sure the Flyers will be able to sign both Grossmann and Carle. Homer may have to choose one or the other. The cap space is going to be an issue unless he unloads a contract somewhere.

they can bring back both, but mesz would almost likely be gone.
edit: maybe that's overstating things, but there would probably be a cap casualty and mesz makes the most sense off the top of my head.

Without looking at the numbers, maybethey could keep all three and use Meszaros, maybe even Coburn, as a trade piece in the pursuit of a top defenseman? Can't hurt to have as many top 4 d-men on hand as we can until then.
