Without looking at the numbers, maybethey could keep all three and use Meszaros, maybe even Coburn, as a trade piece in the pursuit of a top defenseman? Can't hurt to have as many top 4 d-men on hand as we can until then. - BulliesPhan87
Homer's going to have some work to do. I don't see it as vital to keep Carle, but I agree with MJL that if they don't, they need to find a replacement. It shouldn't come down to Carle or Grossmann, they're different types of guys and they need both.
I'm not sure the Flyers will be able to sign both Grossmann and Carle. Homer may have to choose one or the other. The cap space is going to be an issue unless he unloads a contract somewhere.
I wouldn't mind if he found a way to keep both. - stveshdy
The whole Pronger situation and the uncertainty with that is going to make it very difficult.

Especially if the rumors around here that he feels he'll play next season are true. I still have zero confidence Chris Pronger will play in the NHL again, let alone have extended success in returning, but the uncertainty is there.

I like both Carle and Grossmann. They both bring different aspects to this team so its hard to compare them. I just would rather have a steady stay home defenseman who has size and strength who can go up against other teams top players. Thats what Grossmann brings to the table and thats what I think this team needs (they have been much better since acquiring him).
Carle obviously is very good moving the puck and can play on special teams as well. His offensive ability (minus goal scoring) would be something that Grossmann can't give you. I hope Homer finds a way to keep both but I just dont think its going to happen. Grossmann is going to want around 3-3.5M and Carle 5-5.5M that could be another 9M added to the cap and they have other players that need to be re-signed as well. I honestly dont know what Homer has planned but I trust him bc he seems to make the moves necessary to build a winning club.
Grossman IMO is the number one priority to re-sign. I think Carle is a very good player but the Flyers need a player like Grossmann (size and physical/ defensive minded). - stveshdy
agreed. Grossmann brings a solid physical game that the Flyers need badly without Prongs around. Plus, I really haven't seen him make many mistakes since he's come here. Just a good, all around D man.
Fluery took a puck to the head and was run over twice. Once by his own guy, and had to leave the game. - MBFlyerfan
Pens fans are apoplectic on Twitter...I've seen death threats to Martin, people telling him to jump off a bridge...man, it's like Matt Carle after a neutral zone turnover that led to an off side

why is it that when Pens fans are apoplectic I feel happy?

If you add Grossmann and subtract Carle would they still be much better? I have my doubts. Again, it's about the mix. And I could personally see Grossmann looking for more then 3-3.5M.

Today's game is about puck movement. - MJL
I dont see Grossmann getting more than 3.5M (I could be wrong-4M). I think the Flyers would continue to struggle on defensive if they didnt have Grossmann. Carle does move the puck well but we do have other players that move the puck well (Timonen, Mesz, and Coburn). Like you said you need a mix and I think before they acquired Grossmann (and Kubina) the Flyers had too many puck moving defenseman and not enough physical players on the backend. For what its worth I dont think Grossmann does a bad job moving the puck either. I'm not knocking Carle at all I just think they need Grossmann because without Pronger they have nobody that plays that nasty game imo. Coburn may give you alittle of that but its not on a consistant basis.

I see him being able to get more on the open Free Agent market. Meszaros and Coburn don't move the puck nearly as well as Carle does. Puck movement and outlet passing to transition the puck is as much a key component in defending as throwing a check in the corner. They can't score on you if the puck is going to other way. Pronger being injured changed things. Remove Carle and now your defense is too heavy on the stay at home types. Remove Carle and the Flyers would struggle even more.

We just have different opinions. I just dont see how removing Carle makes this team have too many stay at home defenseman. Timonen, Mesz, and Coburn can do as much as Carle imo. They have guys who can skate the puck imo but what they dont have is one physical defenseman who can match up against other teams best forwards size wise until they added Grossmann. I seen it too many times were the Flyers defenseman were out muscled in front of the net and in the corners. This obviously is just my opinion. I'm not saying losing Carle wouldnt hurt I just think Grossmann is someone they need to re-sign. Unfortunately the cap plays a part in todays game and we all know that Grossmann will be less expensive than Carle (not that he shouldnt be).
Leafs eliminated for the 7th straight season. Anyone remember their last playoff game?
- MBFlyerfan
man, can you imagine the mood around here if the Flyers missed the playoffs for 7 straight seasons.
I know the Flyers missed 5 straight in the early 90's, but we knew they were bound for good things with #88 on board. I can't imagine how Leafs fans must feel.

Devils win another gimmick... - steelydan
rangers win another game in the final minutes of the third on a total fluke deflection from the side boards right into the slot where fede(frank)ingtenko just happened to skate into untouched from the side of the net. ridiculous.
