Chara's salary this Season is 8.5M. There are 12 NHL defenseman who make 6.5M a year or better. There are 9 NHL defenseman who make 7M or more. The top paid NHL defenseman this year makes 10M.

So your premise that Carle would be making close to what the top NHL defensman make is incorrect.

I think Carle's value is not as unestablished as Leino's was. Carle's been here for multiple seasons, and improved on each one. Leino was here for a season plus a post-season. The latter allowed far more anomalous data than the former.

I wouldn't be interested in Carle at over $5.5m. Maybe for one season, if a replacement was not in the cards. Even then, he might not be interested. It is his opportunity for a payday.

I wouldn't be interested in a long, front loaded deal with Carle, either. I'd prefer either a 3 or 5 year contract, and I think Carle would be more interested in the 5 years.

How is putting Briere and Carle on the ice at the same time on the PP asking for trouble? They've been on the same PP unit for a while. That dropout breakout is by design, and instituted by the Coaching staff. It is high risk, and always has been. Carle is doing that because it is by design and not a choice he's making.

You must have missed it. O&B27 explained it all. It was complicated, but I'm pretty sure it had to do with "mighty tampa and their stout pk."

I'm over Carle now. I don't care if he is or isn't on the Flyers. He's a solid minute chewer who rarely does anything flashy or have a gaffe like last night. Every team needs 3-4 D men like him. Would I like him to use his hidden offensive upside a bit more? Sure. But it pretty much is what it is with him now I think. I can live with him being around @ $5-6M season for the next 3 seasons I think.
