Do you think Burke lost it? Grabovski for 5.5 mil
p.s. I know I am late and comparing apples to oranges but that still makes me laugh - GoFlyersGoSlovakia
I honestly have no idea what Burke is/was thinking. Burke is very much an all or nothing GM. There are times when he outsmarts himself.

This isnt a "knock" on Carle but how come he never gets voted to the All-Star game? Do you think people dont get to see him enough to showcase how good his skills are? Do the Flyers do a bad job with their PR to have this guys name out there? I think about what you said, that Suter isnt that much of an upgrade over Carle but I cant figure out why this guy doesnt get that respect. - stveshdy
Probably for the same reason the entire Ottawa team made the all star team, it means nothing. |

He has 51 turnovers to Suter's 39. However he has more hits than Suter.
I think it'll be hilarious to hear people female dog about Suter if he signs here for $7mm and isn't a huge upgrade on Carle...because he won't be. Then we'll hear people complain about paying an elite price tag for a very good player.
Of course, some folks complain about the color of the tape a guy uses on his stick. - Jsaquella
Its definitely a case of grass being greener on your great grandmothers grave.
I think both are very good players. I also think that Suter is an absolute upgrade on Carle. |

I dont just mean the All-Star game. I'm talking about the NHL in general. I never hear his name mentioned as one of these top guys. Now I know he isnt in the class with Chara, Weber, Lidstrom, etc. but what about the next tier of players like Letang, Suter, Doughty, Boyle, etc.?
Hard to explain what im trying to say. He isnt put out there like others. |

The thing with Carle is, that he flies under the radar because he doesn't do things that stick out. He's not a big hitter and he doesn't have a huge booming shot. He regressed a bit after his rookie year, and as a result sort of fell out of the thoughts of a lot of folks that cover the game nationally.
As far as All Star appearances, to me that stuff is nothing to even bother being concerned about. Kids and puckbunnies are the folks that vote for the ASG. |

Sign Grossmann and Carle. Think about a one year deal for Kubina or look into finding another (younger) big crease clearer if Pronger isn't coming back. Be super sweet if Prongs actually can make it back, then you waive Shelley and do whatever else is necessary to fit him under the cap. Boom. Done. I'm pretty happy with the make up of the blue line. - Lexington Flyer
I like this plan.
But ever since Grossman got his 2nd N his value has been climbing.
Carle + GrossmanN could be 9+M/season cap hit. |

He is overshadowed by Pronger (when healthy) and Timmonen. He also is paired with Pronger (again when healthy) and people have, somewhat mistakenly, attributed much of his success to being a by product of playing with 20. He has been paired with Timmo for chunks of this season so again he gets overlooked. The more he anchors a pairing, as opposed to being a complimentary guy, the more props he should get, but this season is really the first time he has seen real time in the "anchor" seat. |

Doughty was a top two pick in the draft. Letang plays for the Pens. Boyle got almost zero recognition until the Lightning won the Stanley Cup. |

Not so much the all-star game. My post to funmaster is more of the direction Im trying to go with. |

I think he is in the tier 2a of defenseman. Not elite, and not a Suter, but damn close. He plays a quiet game that doesn't attract a lot of attention. I bet he will get a lot of offers this offseason. |

Yeah, saw that after I posted.
Honestly, Carle's not a top defenseman. He's a very solid, top four guy on a playoff team. He's not a guy that does a lot that will stick out, and he doesn't have a personality that draws attention to himself. |

I'm just trying to figure out why Carle isnt marketed more like these other defenseman. If he is in that second tier of players and has been a very good defenseman I just dont understand why more people (nationally as well) dont recognize it. |

I know what you are saying but I don't like your examples.
Letang is no longer a 2nd tier guy imo.
Boyle and guys like Brian Campbell, Karlson etc bring a ton of offense with their game.
Carle offensively doesn't really compare with them.
I think Suter is not a bad comparison actually of all those you name, and he is a better player. |

Exactly, a solid number 2 or 3 defenseman on most teams. |

Not only because he is a very solid player, but because the defense market is as weak as it's ever been, since the lockout. |

Someone will pay him what he wants.
I wonder if the Flyers will go 5+M on a multiple yr deal with him.
I'm not sure I can see it happening. |

If thats the case the Flyers should be ashamed of themselves. Thats poor marketing. |

I think they might be willing to go to $5.25mm on a 2 or 3 year deal...I doubt he gets a long term deal for that big a hit. |

Why, exactly, should the Flyers market him? If he's making ASG's and a big name guy, it'll cost them more to keep him. The Flyers have little trouble selling tickets. |

All depends if they feel they have other options. As Jsaq said, not much available this year. Flyers can't afford to let him walk and not replace him. |
