So the Pens don't scare you at all? We've played a lot better at home of late, and I just have visions of 2009 when we had home ice only to give it away just before the playoffs and lose in 6. - Hextall271
Scariest team in the league right now, no doubt. But I don't believe in momentum heading into the playoffs.
If the Flyers are on top of their game, they can beat anyone in the NHL.
Also, it would be an extremely entertaining series.

The main objective is to maintain a level of compete and get healthy. That being said the sixth seed might happen by default (I'm not a fan of tanking games either) and if I remember correctly the last time the Flyers dealt with late season goalie injuries something special happened

Every team should worry us. There's not likely to be a walkover opponent at any point. Neither the Rangers or Pens will be a cakewalk. Even if they drop to sixth, they could end up against the Caps, who despite their performance thus far, can still be a dangerous team.
This is my own personal opinion... If someone told me that Bryz was going to break his foot, but I would be the one to pick what type of fx and where it would be located.. i would have picked small chip fracture and minimal-weightbearing bone (toe). So I would be one fir two here.
Good news: Its a relatively simple injury. Nothing to complicated usually comes of it. Like has been said else where.. typically its a matter of pain and swelling. The body will resorb that bony fragment and in a matter of about 6 weeks, you wont be able to find in on X-ray, CT, or MRI.
Bad News: It is in a weight-bearing bone ( most likely the navicular) and is exacerbated by stressful motions. Goalies do a ton of pushing with their feet. The way the body works is amazing.. but its not always in our best personal (what we want) interest. Pain, especially when severe, can actually cause muscles to "give out". People with severe knee pain often have this manifestation. They feel knee instability, yet when examined and tested actually have no mechanism for instability. Pain can be a serious PITA.
If it were up to me I would let him rest a week.. see how much pain he is in and go from there. Completely shut him down. Dont skate, stay off of it.. let him settle down. Sometimes the area is pretty irritated, and that can cause most of the pain. Staying off of it, letting that settle, and giving it a little bit of time to begin the healing process can really help. The last thing I would like to see is him pushing it to go this weekend, and then have him limp through the playoffs.
Ultimately.. the worst we can do is go 0-7.. and potentially end up playing either Pitt or the Rags... or in a best case scenario 7-0 and potentially end up playing either Pit or the Rags... catch my drift.

We're all indebted to you, Dr Killdare.
I agree with you. No need to rush him back and possibly make things more painful. From most of what I read, your opinion goes along with the suggested course of action.

Buffalo kinda is reminding me of us in 2010. Underachieving all year, then boom.switch flipped and they are off. Miller is playing very well right now. I'd love to see them face the Rangers and send them packing..

That wouldn't be bad, but then somebody will have to face a geeked up Miller and Sabres team

I can't seem to remember a season where things start looking good going into the playoffs without anyone significant getting an injury. - JoeRussomanno
last night i clicked on the cbc clip posted in here of the jr ot goal against toronto to knockout them out in 04. when the clip finished it showed a link of the flyers series against tampa in the next round, so i clicked on that. it was a tampa produced piece on that series, and while interesting to watch, i found it annoying that not once did they mention the flyers ridiculously depleted defense corps - not the players, not the narrator, nobody. yep. that 7 game series decided by 1 measly goal was a battle of two healthy teams. i think the former iraqi minister of propaganda produced it.
I am so beyond excited for the playoffs to begin. We can definitely beat the Pens (if that's how it shakes out); nothing would please me more, actually, then beating them at their home in a game 7
Hope everyone gets as healthy as they can and Bob can turn it on for the stretch run! - DrMidnite
That would be helluva battle! I think we are each others biggest obstacle once the playoffs start.

That was the year we had to use a winger on defense too If I remember correctly. That's it I'm restarting the game going back to options and turning off injuries damnit!
I'm certainly cool with the team taking it easy (which shouldn't be misconstrued with finishing strong) to heal up a bit. Of course it'd be nice to finish 4th, but it's going to be a war against who ever they play (Rags or Pens) and I'd like them to be somewhat healthy if at all possible. I think Kimmo should be given ample time off and Bryz shouldn't come back until 1 or 2 games before the playoffs if possible. Simply put, the Flyers were going to have to beat the Penguins or Rangers at some point, let's get it out of the way in the first round and hope Ottawa knocks off Boston.
Btw, as the Penguins displayed last night, it is impossible to win every hockey game and it isn't worth going crazy as some did the other night when your team, which has already clinched, loses a win-able game. It happens. Go Flyers!

It was edited by Jack Edwards. (frank) I hate having to listen to that Homer.

I say play Bacon CHihuahua the rest of the year and call up sit Timo, and anyone else with so much as a sore muscle. Tank it..finish 6th and take our chances with Florida..

It's a gift to everybody else in the east that the Flyers and Pens are destined to do battle. - BulliesPhan87
Indeed. Whichever team (most likely the pens ) comes out of that they are going to be hurting. That is the main reason I don't want it to happen because I would hate to see either team knocked out in the second round losing to a team like Florida when everyone knows both the Pens and Flyers are far beyond Fl.
Then again that is the nature of the beast when it comes to the playoffs. Beat the best to be the best I suppose.

sami kapanen. johnsson had a broken hand (and played). ragnarsson went out in the first or second game. malakhov had a concussion. desjardin had reinjured his broken forearm right before the playoffs. it was ridiculous. nobody really remembers that it was timander on the left point in the dying minutes of game 6 that shot the puck that primeau tapped in on the other side. just think about that. weinrich and theiren had been jettisoned at the deadline. seidenberg was a rookie on a very short leash from hitch. he barely saw the ice after his turnover in the neutral zone lead to lecavalier's early goal in game 6. i think markov was the only healthy guy back there. still makes me mad.
