That's right, my bad. - canadianpenfan
I liked both Carter and Richards, but I said at the time I thought the trades were fair.
So far the Flyers have gotten the better end of things, but time will tell. Of course, if Couturier and Schenn develop the way the could... |

I agree with that. As I have said a few times, my lone issue yesterday were the comments made by Laviolette and Crosby after the game. I think that Lavy calling Bylsma gutless was uncalled for and Crosby's lame comments about the cross check were dumb. - Jsaquella
Well, logic says this, sure. These teams are gearing up for a war, though, getting the blood boiling is going to take priority over logical statements. I would both comments up to gamesmanship, and I don't think it's the last we'll see of it. |

Got your deals crossed, good sir.
They got Voracek and Couturier, plus a 3rd rounder for Carter.
Simmonds and Schenn came for Richards.
Cousins is also a chippy little bastard, too. He's going to be about as well liked by other Atlantic division fans as Hartnell. - Jsaquella
I don't like to admit it but Hartnell grew a little on me yesterday. I think that stuff is good for the game. And I hate the Hulk impersonator, always have.
I'm waiting for the Hartnell T-shirts with the grooves in the back that everyone tears off when he scores. Coming to a home game near you. |

Either that or gets swept because they only have 4 regulars left in the line up. |

Him and Coots for Carter is a steal along the lines of Gogo for Niskanen and Neal.
3 years from now it will look even better. - canadianpenfan
It was actually Coots and Voracek for Carter... Simmonds came over with Schenn for Richards, but I know what you mean. There's a lot more heart and push back on this team and a lot of it is because of these moves by Homer.
I still am blown away about how good Coots is... a 19 year old effectively covering the NHL's highest scorer and MVP is insane.. I hope he can keep it up for the playoffs. |

Bill would be a better authority, but simply looking at stats and where the teams sit, the Pens jobbed the Stars - Jsaquella
GoGo has missed some time and he has done well, but yea, jobbed either way. Neal is going to have 40 goals and possibly be top 5 in scoring. |

They also moved Neal to open up ice time for Jamie Benn who is a stud.
I'm sure Neal price tag played a factor as well. |

Hartnell really seems to be coming into his own this year. I mean, he's always been pretty good, and an agitator, but he's taken it to another level and developed a great rapport with hockey fans. And the thing is, like a lot of other hockey players (see Alfredsson in philly giving a puck to a young Flyers fan), it's starting to cross over to other team's fans.
Does Ovi still give sticks away after games? I know he used to do this a lot regardless of home or away... |

No doubt in my mind Hulk Hogan would sue. He needs all the money he can get after his ex wife took him to the cleaners. |

Agreed. I was not happy at the time of the trade, and I still like Carts and Richie, but it looks more and more like we came out on the better end. We have some crazy forward depth now. |

Agreed. This kind of playing it up to the fans is what the game needs. Too many dry interviews etc where people are PC.. Rivalry is good. Back in the 80's there were more vilains etc (Hextall was considered one) but it made for exciting hockey. |

That's one factor I didn't initially consider at the time of the trade. Moving Richie and Carts also made room for increased ice time for Roo.. and we see that seems to have worked well. |

As much recognition as Richards got for his defensive ability as a center, Coots size and hockey sense really seem to be able to match-up better with Malkin. With Coots and Talbot on the ice, Malkin sees a lot less open ice.
For whatever reason, this group of Flyers centers seems to matchup much better with the Pens centers in years past. |

Yesterday was the first time all year that I missed Richards being on the team. The battles he had with Crosby were Epic, and I bet the last minute would have ended differently if he was on the ice.... |

I think it has more to do with team defense than individual matchups. Couts has great potential, but I'm not placing him above Richards yet. Another year or 2? Sure. But the team is buying into a more team-oriented style of playing, and it's showing. |

Malkin is having a much tougher time finding space against Coots then he ever did against anyone else. True, Richards was always on Crosby but still... |
