Pretty simple concept really. JFJ gimped the Leafs to the point where there was little to no chance that the organization could turns things around for quite some time. Any GM taking over from him would've been handicapped for 5 years.

What would a GM who did a full rebuild have done to stop this suckage? We'd have Seguin & Hamilton instead of Kessel. Probably no Gardiner. No Lupul. No Phaneuf (likely a good thing). Probably a few more depth prospects from trading guys like Grabo, etc for late 1st round picks and there'd be no Komi/Connolly crap. The team would still suck but the future would be looking brighter.
