Lavi needs to figure out a way to make his players believe the start of the game is the second period. |

Loved that Shelley gave a salute. Shelley isn't a good player, but he is a team guy that his teammates love. I'm not thrilled with his cap hit, or even him being on the team, but I have no issues with Shelley the man. I bet he is probably one of the nicer guys in the NHL. |

You saw a coronation of course. What else were you expecting? Not heading down to Arnold's with the Fonz for Burgers and Milkshakes? - PLindbergh31
my rant just disappeared somehow and i'm not going to retype it. defensive zone coverage terrible in the first. they lost the game on special teams. bryz was fine. lundqvist made a couple of dandies, but they didn't test him much imo, and they missed the net a billion times - including 2 wide open nets that missed and hit the post.
i expected better and really thought they'd win. the rangers just sit back, are aggressive on the puck carrier, especially with their sticks and break up a lot of plays and block a ton of shots, get their turnovers and seem to score without breaking a sweat. it's infuriating. having to be surrounded by meathead clueless rangers fans just made it worse.
i wish they were healthy against them. would be nice to see what that matchup would look like. |

his rupp beatdown was long overdue, but timed well in the game, and was probably the best part of the game. unfortunately, it did nothing to turn the tide. |

For whatever reason they just don't matchup well with the Rangers. Rags played a very undisciplined game for them, and left Lundqvist hang out to dry often. He made the save when there were breakdowns for the most part. That was the difference.
Not to make excuses, but the Flyers are playing ridiculously shorthanded right now, and I have my doubts that any of the players will come back for the Penguins series. |

Yeah, you would think that would ignite some emotion and a spike in play, but they were still flat after it. Shelley really pummeled Rupp bigtime. I don't believe Rupp returned to the game. |

the rangers played the same way every game in the season series. tonight was the first time they didn't score garbage, fluky, bad goals. they just didn't work hard to get them. flyers came storming out of the gate, and outplayed them for a large margin of the game, but were soft in their own end after the initial early flurry and it cost them. another 1-0 lead 6:30 into the game. part of me wanted bob to come in to finish the 2nd and 3rd - not because bryz was bad, but rather to slap the team in the face.
the injury list is ridiculous and so frustrating they can't ice a relatively full squad against them.
the only solace i take is that these games really mean nothing as of saturday afternoon. they can pat themselves on the back for their 1st place finish. everyone starts at 0-0 on 3/11.
i believe grossmann and briere will return. and jvr for that matter. |

is that right? didn't really notice. i was surprised that the punch to the side of his head/ear is what knocked him down.
speaking of injuries. it looked like CSP hurt his blocker hand on the flyers late 2nd period goal when he dove across - like it hit his palm or thumb, and he was wincing for a bit, didn't pick up his stick. i was hoping it broke his hand. he came back in the 3rd and looked fine. |

Good points. I agree with your assessments. Bryzgalov hasn't played well in the last two games since the injury, he's not allowing soft goals, but it looks like he's laboring to me. I thought the goaltending wouldn't be a concern entering the playoffs, of course a fluke injury in warmups even muddies those waters.
If Grossmann and Briere return, will they be healthy to contribute? And as of today JVR was still in a boot, I don't think he's anywhere near close to returning. They actually said on the Rags broadcast that Meszaros was way ahead of schedule and he was planning on skating this weekend.
