What exactly was borderline?
Disagreeing with ONE of the four things Meltzer said?
Am I not allowed to dissent?
Sorry, I'll just toe the line and bleat the same nonsense as everyone else.

That same CBA that allowed the Flyers to wipe away Mike Rathje's contract and allow him to go on the LTIR aka get off my team because you suck and we made a mistake signing you to a longterm deal in the first place list?
Every big market team has skeletons but those days of mocking the Rangers for bad contracts are pretty much over.

wasn't there a time for a few years that every time the Flyers needed to create cap space they would just put Simon Gagne on IR?

it's all good...
overall, it's comical that all of the sudden the board has an influx of Ranger fans. Your team is better then my team, my team was home grown. In the end I could care less how their team was built.
It's all about the making it to the dance. both teams have done this.

who gives a poop how many homegrown players each team has or who does what with bad contracts. Is this for real? Only thing that matters is who wins the cup, last time I checked. |

both teams had off on Monday.
The Flyers were the home team last night.
The Rangers jump out to a 4-0 lead.
I mean, seriously?
excuses - jimbro83
i'd just like to see what happens when the flyers ice a nearly healthy lineup. you know, having their captain and best dman, and plenty of other regulars who are important pieces. no pronger, meszaros, grossmann, briere, jvr, and a goalie without a fractured foot.
the rangers were the better team, and deserve the success they've earned this season. good for them. good for the fans. it's the first time in about fifteen years they've finished higher than 3rd in their division, and with that comes expectations. they haven't advanced past the second round since the 97 ecf, and we all remember how that ended. if they flame out like the caps did a couple of years ago after a 120+ point campaign it won't mean a damn thing.
next week, the record means nothing and everyone is 0-0.
what are you doing over here, anyway? aren't you still arguing about why lundqvist should be winning the vezina over in the kings group? |

I mean sure we arn't the best when it comes to dumping bad contracts or exploiting the cap, but we are not as bad as you guys not even close. We dont make big FA splashes EVERY year.
How did Gomez, Reddin, Dru, kaspy, nasland work out? Sure gabby and Richards worked but you know there are about 50 gms you would rather have.
Us on the other hand, I can maybe think of 2-3 gms I would take over hommer and even then I dont know if id make the trade if I had the choice. |

agreed that it's a tired narrative about the Rangers. They've done a fantastic job of building a solid core from within, signing two marquee free agents, and finding valuable role players.
they also developed the best goaltender in the league. |

nah just Rathje....bad signing right there...
this year we have signed almost a whole AHL starting lineup
Leighton
Walker
Bartulis (cheap cap hit, might be claimed on re-entry)
you could add Betts but he's on IR
You could add Shelley but he finally won a fight with Rupp and his EAR last night.
the CBA they should be able to just release a guy instead of sending him down to the AHL. give the guy a chance to sign on with another team. |

Gomez worked out absolutely fantastic because we traded him for Ryan McDonagh.

No big market team is above shady dealings to wipe away some of the bad deals doled out.
Toronto, NYR, Philly, Chicago, the beloved Pens have all made mistakes via free agency.
There are more teams but it is too long a list to name each and every one of the clubs that have carelessly spent money.

plenty of teams bury contracts due to how the CBA is written. Homegrown versus not homegrown...
next is how a team is bad enough to collect draft picks versus a team that tries to stay competitive through FA.
either way each team has their own game plan.
Just win the dam cup!!! |
