I just want to take this moment to remind everybody that the Toronto Maple Leafs will miss the playoffs for the seventh time in a row.

Torts says "It's ridiculous. But they'll whine about something else over there, won't they? Starting with their two [expletive] stars."

If the Pens do nothing but whine Torts, they would have hired you as coach. If you are going to so it right, might as well get the guy who the most often and the loudest in the league. As they say "Pot meet kettle."

Torts does nothing but grandstand. Is there a coach in the NHL who female doges, cries and whines more than him? I doubt it. I think Crosby and Malkin do complain without question. You compare that to Torts and Callahan, its very very close. He should keep his mouth shut.

Move over Lavy, we have a new drama queen contender in the Atlantic Division, Mr Torterella! Yikes, get that guy a muzzle. He just sounds foolish.
Not to belittle what happened, but is Brooks a goon? Is our fourth line a bunch of goons? Of course not. And our biggest 'Goon', Cookie, has completely reformed himself. It's good that Mario took a public stand on head shots and violence and hockey.

However, hockey at it's best is hard hitting and gritty. In fact that is what makes both of these teams and the Flyers good. So to have Torts single us out is absurd! His statement of our two bleeping stars smacks of 3rd grader jelousy. Brookes hit was an unfortunate incident but did not justify his moronic statements, IMO. He had diarrhea of the mouth and somebody from the Rangers was not brave enough to tell Mr Toughguy to shut his pie hole.

Crosby whined earlier in his career. Largely toned that down. He still yaps from time to time, but he's one competitive MF'r and I'd rather have that than an emotionless superstar. Malkin? I'm not sure Malkin's vocabulary is large enough to whine. I never see him talk on the ice.

Torts is the biggest whining baby in the league however.....bar none....(perfect fit with New York)

I'm quoting someone else's thoughts on this matter because I didn't feel like retyping. It's Friday and I'm in lazy mode. lol

So Tortorella says - "Just imagine this happened to one of their stars..." Wait a second - this actually DID happen to one of our stars, earlier this year and one of Tortorella's players did the EXACT SAME THING. No one really remembers it (except for Jordan Staal I'm sure he remembers the hit) because our coach didn't throw a temper tantrum after the game like a spoiled preschooler...

Seriously, Fonzie needs to get a script for chill pills. What a moron! The crap that comes out of his mouth makes Milbury look like a Rhodes Scholar. That and the girlschool freakout even after Orpik was penalized and sent off was worthy of a slap upside the head. Exactly what was he trying to say to the officials? Was he upset there wasn't a crucifixion as well? When you look at Fonzie you clearly see a person that was spoiled and coddled as a child. He’s a complete punk who never had his hiney beaten enough or put in his place. I think Bing would say both he and Laviolette need beaten with a bag of oranges.

Torts sounded like one of the idiots on the Rangers board here. Seeing him go off like that makes you appreciate Bylsma's ability to hold his tongue in every post-game press conference. Must have been especially hard lately in the aftermath of the Flyers game and the Milbury comments. I've never heard him outright criticize someone like that once. But hey, what do you expect from a classless, arrogant organization like the Pens.

This BS from that bearded tool makes me regret even more the opportunity Cooke had to completely destroy Richards late in the game and he backed off. Could have blased him legally into the end boards and he took a different angle instead out of "respect" to the player. He should have put him in the first row.

Seems to me the only people "whining" are the coaches and fans in Philly and NY. None of the players on either side are saying anything.

I never understand the Leaf hate (except from Habs/Sens/Sabres fans - direct rivals). I think the playoffs are more interesting when Original 6'ers like the Habs/ Leafs are in (though not at the expense of my team).

Not true. Brier said Vitale intended to injure him.....however they've admitted it was a clean hit. Biron went off last night saying Orpik always sticks out his knee and elbows....etc. In the past Callahan and Dubinsky whined plenty after games with the Pens. They're team/fans largely follow the coach with crying.

Nobody around here is condoning Orpik but he is not a dirty player. Does he have a few incidents, yes, but he's played a ton of games. Physical players always run the risk of going over the line.

I can't explain it either, I just find the annual failure of that franchise both utterly baffling and sickly amusing. How does a team with that much financial, media, and fanbase support continually come up with nothing? Well, I guess we're seeing how. poop, even the Blue Jackets (and now the Florida Panthers) have accidently stumbled into the playoffs more recently than the Leafs.

I think people in Canada who are not Leafs fans despise the Leafs and their fans. As to why they keep losing, that is a bit more complicated.

The thing about Torts rant is that it's a classic redirect. He's basically saying "Hey nevermind that our team has gone 2-4 against that team. I'm going to throw my name in with Milbury, Laviolette and Berube so that people won't talk about how they dominated us all season."

Instead of everyone talking about how the Penguins have put a whooping on the 1st place Rangers, they will be talking about what he said about the Pens.

The good thing about all of this our local sports radio station is having a field day with Torts quotes. They keep splicing in his "no respect" every where. Pretty entertaining. If Torts could here it, his head would explode.

I think you make a good point about deflecting, but I'm glad Bylsma never blubbers like that in the media. I can't stand coaches that do that. Fans of these other teams act like our players never get cheap shots. The difference is you don't here the coach and players whine about it.....

I think the hate in Canada is more understandable, what with proximity. I'm probably just being a jerk

As for the losing, it isn't a simple matter. If it were, they wouldn't be in the position they are. I don't think every move they've made has been bad, but I've always thought this "sort of" rebuild was destined for mediocrity.

Remind me who was crying last night? Torts? Biron? I'm sure Callahan and Dubinsky whined because they always do.

Dirtiest? Nope ... I can name four teams without hesitation dirtier when everyone is healthy and playing.
