i'm not sure if it's a new mask, but i don't recall seeing that crown logo on it before. either way, i don't like it. i know he didn't name himself that, but it reeks of conceit. even if was really the king, like marty brodeur has been for most of his career, i still wouldn't like it. i'm sure he's a nice guy, but that's weak sauce.

I guess I understand why. But I hope the playoff Series is officiated with a different mindset. There is no way in hell that's a boarding Major on Rinaldo. Not even close. It's a 2 minute penalty.

it better be. the calls we saw tonight against rinaldo and shelley were a (frank)ing joke.

I think you missed my point. I don't think Stamkos should even be in the talks for the Hart because his team won't be in the playoffs. He's a fantastic player and obviously can score goals but these goals are without meaning if he can't make the playoffs, there for shouldn't be in talks for any other hardware outside of the Rocket Rachard.
- roenick97

But every year there's someone whose individual achievements have them on the radar. I don't think it happens that they win very often though.

Doesn't the crown on Henrik's helmet have more to do with honoring Sweden (the three crowns)?

I was worried their offense would scuffle without Utley and Howard, but 2 runs in 19 innings vs. that juggernaut Pirates pitching staff has put those concerns to bed.

Going to be a long year. Hitting is an issue but hopefully they can turn it around.

The offense is downright offensive. Unwatchable. Hopefully the Flyers have a long playoff run, I don't feel like watching 2-1 baseball games 5 nights a week.

The record should be pretty good, but they are going to be boring as hell to watch. Take the #3 and #4 hitters out of any lineup and the offense will struggle somewhat, unfortunately the Phils don't really have any depth. They are going to struggle big time scoring runs.

So the Eastern Conf. playoff matchups are set.

Sens/Rags
Caps/Bruins
Flyers/Pens
Devils/Panthers

Should be pretty interesting. Sens have the firepower with Alfie, Spezza, Michalek, and Karlsson on the backend to give the Rags fits. If Andy can get hot between the pipes, I see that potentially as a very competitive series.

I have to just shake my head in bewilderment with the Coyotes, they let Bryzgalov walk, replace him with a career journeyman and get Lundqvist numbers from Mike freakin Smith and win their first Division title in franchise history. Anyone want to take a crack at explaining that one?

Smith's numbers are every bit as good as Lundqvist's across the board this year. Just amazing.

I like Stamkos but is anyone else bothered when a goal scorer of his status gets into talks for the Hart but doesn't get his team into the playoffs? In my mind that has to come into play or else he's just patting his own stats. To me, anything he does unless he gets into the big dance that season is sort of meaningless. 60 is great but make these goals count for something. I can most certainly understand Malkin and Lundqvist's being nominated. If Stamkos should be in the talks for anything it's for the Rocket Rachard but that's pretty much it.
- roenick97

I disagree. Out of his 60 goals 12 were game winners 5 of which in overtime. 20 of his goals gave the lightning the lead and another 9 goals tied the game. He has been extraordinary and deserves to be included.

Smith had a great year. Phoenix plays great defense and their offense stinks.

60 goals is 60 goals. He deserves to be in the conversation. Only 20 other players in the history of the league can lay claim to that achievement. With that said the winner is already being engraved so at the end of the day it won't really matter.

It wasn't Stamkos' fault the Lightning d core and goalies were sieves. A 60 goal season is an amazing accomplishment. Ovechkin had a 65 goal season in 2007, but before that it hadn't been done since Jagr and Mario did it in 1995 as teammates.

Stamkos should absolutely be considered for the Hart Trophy.

If Smith continues this roll they are a real threat to oust Chicago.

Phoenix is 28th in the NHL in shots allowed per game, I wouldn't say they play great defense by any means.

Anything is possible in that series. I like the Hawks to win in six games, too much firepower.

What is Toews' status? He hasn't played a game in forever. I would assume he's going to miss some significant time in the playoffs.

I don't put a lot of stock into shots as it can be overrated. I look more at the quality of chances given up. You can have 35 saves in a game and only have to make five legit saves.
