What is Toews' status? He hasn't played a game in forever. I would assume he's going to miss some significant time in the playoffs. - PLindbergh31
Haven't heard if he's even started skating yet. I would consider him doubtful for the first round. |

I don't put a lot of stock into shots as it can be overrated. I look more at the quality of chances given up. You can have 35 saves in a game and only have to make five legit saves. - stveshdy
It can be, but his numbers are stark compared to LaBarbera the backup there in Phoenix. At worst Smith finishes fourth in the Vezina voting. He's had an amazing season out of nowhere. |

He had the concussion, and then was involved in a car accident shortly after. Hard to envision him playing anytime soon. |

Jonathan Toews (concussion) will not play in Saturday's game.
"My status hasn't changed, unfortunately," Toews said. "I'm still progressing, I guess. It's kind of a frustrating to let another game go by but I just don't feel comfortable that (Saturday) is the right way to get back into it." Toews is still experiencing symptoms when he's on the ice. It remains to be seen if he'll participate in the Blackhawks' playoff opener.

Yup. Thats what I figured. If he's still experiencing symptoms, he's nowhere close to playing. Hawks will be hard pressed to beat the Yotes without him. Phoenix has an enormous advantage between the pipes in this series. |

I don't even know why he's talking about playing if he's still having symptoms. |

Now that the matchups are set. What are your first round predicitions? |

Not set yet, LA game still has implications. |

West isn't set yet I don't believe.
In the East I like the Bruins, Rags, and Devils. Not going to offer a pick on the Flyers/Pens series until I know the status of Grossmann and Briere. |

Amazing he couldnt stop the puck in TB because they could of used a goalie this year. They rolled the dice with Roloson and it bit them in the ass. |

Sure did. Yzerman did a poor job with this years Lightning team. If he solidifies the defense core, and gets a goalie look out. Obviously two BIG IF's. He's done a nice job of stock piling draft picks though. |

I have no doubt Yzerman will get a goalie this offseason. He has the picks to make a deal to acquire one.
He should go after Matt Carle if they have the space. |

I'm thinking Yzerman is going to try and land Schneider or Bernier. That's got to be his thinking. |

What about Bob? He had a great season. I believe at one point this year people were comparing his numbers to Bryz and saying how much better they were. Guess they forgot the second half of the season was still left to play.

I don't know what to think about Bob. He's still young, adapting to the NHL, and has only had around 80 starts, I think he can be fairly serviceable, not sure he is ever going to be a legit # 1 guy. Jury is still out. I wouldn't be surprised either way. |

Would you move Bob this summer and go with a cheaper backup? |

Nah. What's the point? Bob's cap hit is 1.7 million, any decent backup costs at least half that. If the Flyers get close enough to the cap where it prevents them from getting something done you would think they would send Shelley to Adirondack. I mean are we going to be subjected to a 37 year old guy who played 30 games this year eating up more than a million dollars in cap space next year? Just asinine. |

I'm fairly surprised Vancouver won the President's Trophy again this year. Two years in a row. Pretty impressive. |

I don't think it's that great of an accomplishment. You would have to think any Atlantic division team would be able to find 3 or 4 points along the way playing against the Flames, Oilers, Avs and Wild 6 times a year. |

Trading Bob and using half his money along with Shelley will almost free up about two million. Thats some serious cap space especially if the Flyers did want to attempt to re-sign Carle. I'm sure other moves can also be made but I think they hold onto Bob as well. I dont see teams offering much for Bob anyways. |

Horrible division as of today. Oilers, Wild, and Avs have some very talented young players. Their just not ready to be at that next level yet. |

Maybe, but the travel in the Western Conf. is brutal compared to the Eastern Conf. That can't be understated.
I'm still awaiting a Flyers President's Trophy, Norris Trophy, Calder Trophy, Rocket Richard.... I will stop now before I get depressed.... |

Grossmann was priority # 1, like you stated a few days ago. Next priority is to lock up Voracek. After that, Flyers are going to have to get creative in finding a way to replace Carle. |

Probably trying to convince himself he can & that it's worth the risk. |
