Malkin and Crosby are great players. However, they do initiate a lot of slashes and questionable tactics and hardly get called by the referees. Obviously, other teams' fan bases watch this and grow frustrated. I certainly don't expect this preferential treatment of star players not to continue, but it does seem Crosby and Malkin tend to intiate some questionable stuff on the ice more then some of the other star players currently in the league. I could be wrong, but that is my two cents on the situation. - ravishingone
Crosby for sure...it might be because hes the "face of the league" and we see it more...I don't know...but you are 100% right...and any intelligent Pens fan acknowledges it. If I wasn't a Pens fan I bet I would hate Crosby too. Malkin I don't see it as much, but you could be right. Preferential treatment? I agree completely...it must be frustrating too. |

Flyers need to beat the Penguins in the scoreboard.
Laugh at Steve MacIntyre all game long. Keep Shelly on the bench, let Rinaldo run Crybaby or Egor if they start it. - Scottie Upshall
I'd like to see us win, but not at all costs. I want Bryz to keep getting back into a groove and everyone get out healthy. |

I really don't like Malkin's mean/cheap side, especially after that big elbow he threw (though was fortunately ducked) at Giroux earlier this season. The pushing his head into the ice thing last game was pretty crappy, too. As has been said by one Penguins poster (whose username eludes me), though, if you see Malkin doing that you're successfully taking him off his game. |

Oh yeah...maybe that's why I don't notice it from Malkin as much because he only does it when he is frustrated...when he is focused he is the best player in the world...when you get him off his game he acts like a brat cheapshotting everyone. I don't agree with lumping him into the same category as Sid...who does that stuff seemingly all game every game...except for when he is lighting up the scoreboard. |

Every sports league tries to protect their "stars" in one shape or another, it is certainly in their best financial interest. I'm glad Crosby made it back from his concussions, I hate to see any player cut down by concussions. I do find it interesting with his concussion history, he still is willing to play at times a chippy game. With that being Sid, if Sid is going to intiate slashes and crosschecks against the Flyers, he certainly understands those tactics will be used against him. Absolutely Schenn was wrong and was penalized, Sid in similiar situations during the game, not so much.
Still in the end, I can't wait for this series to begin.

Their, shall we say, "cheap" sides are not the same, no. Of course, I'm not taking extraordinary issue with either player. It's what you do when you're a top player on a competitive team. If he were still playing, Pronger would certainly be doing things to get everybody else's knickers in a twist. Briere's known to, as I once heard it put, be willing to carve out another player's eye in pursuit of a goal. It's part of the game.
Now, complaints about NHL officiating is another story |

This game is just a game to get through. Nothing more to it. I imagine Fleury sits, Sullivan, Neal, and Niskanen sit, and I wouldn't doubt if Sid sits. Although he apparently wants to play. Either way, if the stars on both teams dress, their minutes will cut significantly.
McIntryre won't even be a factor. He'll be out there in case there are some after the whistle scrums, which the Flyers love to do....and admit it. Mac will be there to try to keep everyone in line, but granted will probably only fight Shelley. LOL
It's not like the Penguins are going out and trying to start something by calling him up. They're going to want to rest players, and after last weeks fireworks, the logical call up is Mac. Neither team wants injuries, neither team wants what happened last week. By having Mac in the lineup, it allows the Pens to match Shelley, being that Engelland isn't really a true heavyweight. I also think Asham is a bit timid in the fighting department as his coconut isn't 100% I'm thinking. |

How original and hilarious...it is posts like this that give Flyers fans a bad name...which is a shame because there are many who are capable of having a reasonable convo about this rivalry without having to act like a child. I wish those reasonable ones would call guys like this out... - bri29smith
I remember back in the late 90's Pens fans saying stuff like that about lindros so it goes both ways.
Seriously though you guys have a cup and we are the ones with something to prove so don't let it bog you down too much. |

True, but I'm going on size and maybe not talent alone. Although Engo did rip him up last time they fought.

Good morning all!
This just in from NHL.com. You will be happy to know it seems that all the bellyaching from across the Allegheny Mountains has made an impression on the NHL:
The NHL has instituted a new rule change stemming from the events of last Sunday's wild melee between the Penguins and Flyers:
Rule 48.1 Impeding a Flyer's right to carry the puck with his head down
After less than 2 minutes are left in any period, Philadelphia players carrying the puck, regardless of the score, shall be allowed to skate through center ice, with their head down, without being impeded by the imposing team. Any form of checking in this situation, regardless of legality of the hit, shall be deemed a 2 minute penalty. In the event the puck carrier is Danny Briere, an automatic match penalty shall be issued against the opposing player, in consideration of the fact that Danny can't seem to be bothered with cardinal principles taught in pee-wee hockey.
Those of you uber serious folks here, please take this in the spirit of fun which it is intended. Enjoy the game. Peace on earth and goodwill towards Flyerdom. |

Pens fans still do this garbage too...Filthadelphia Cryers or whatever...Your last note there I LOVE...Pens are the anointed favorites (blah...I would hate this if I were you)...and the big bad Flyers have something to prove to this Pens generation...it doesn't get any better - bri29smith
Yes Filthadelphia Cryers or Poopsburgh Whiners, it's all good. It's kinda why I just stick to this thread in terms of commenting because anytime you go to a opposing team's board you are gonna read stuff you don't like about your team. |

Its early, I haven't made my morning coffee yet, so you'll just have to cut me some slack. Just having a bit of fun with B Meltzer's time and place commentary, since that appears to be the crux of his complaint. |
