Nothing is hard to do when it comes to the Oilers...especially demanding trades! |

Just a question for discussion, are the leafs better off drafting with our pick and moving forward with what we got, or would burke be wise to trade whatever is necessary (be it kessel, gardiner, etc) to grab the first overall in addition to our pick and grab both galchenyuk and yakupov? i was talking to a friend today and he asked me this question, said it could be like what burke did with the sedins. draft 2 studs who have already played together and use them as the building blocks of this team for the next 10 years. im not suggesting that this is possible or trying to make crazy homer trade proposals, im just interested in what u guys think of this idea |

This would only be possible if we won the lotto. I'm totally for it, but not sure we have what it takes to get that 2nd pick. Also rumors abound that Montreal is very high (or their head scout rather) on Galchenyuk. This draft is pretty interesting after Yakupov, b/c Murray, Grigerenko, Galchenyuk, & Dumba could really go in any order. Not to mention Forsberg, Trouba, Reinhart, & Faksa are just behind them and playoff runs could bring them within that group.
I think Burke keeps this one, if it changes happen it'll be trading up with the Oilers |

People think that the Oilers will take a defenseman but I dont buy it. You take the best player available and I really believe they take Gregorenko. At #3 I think the Habs will take Galyenchuk and the Leafs will go with Forsberg at #5. Of course the lottery can change the draft order and trades can be made. But I think this is how it will go right now. |

Only way Edmonton will pick Gregs is if they offload Gagner or Omark/Magnus Paajarvi for a quality D-man. Now they could also very well trade down and select Reinhart |

I agree. I can see them now trading MP and/or Gagner for some defensive help. They wont waste a first or second overall for one. They know they arent one player away from contending so the need for a dman isnt as strong as it would need to be to trade such a valuable pick. They need goaltending just as bad as a dman anyways.
Grigorenko has the size and skill to be a Malkin type player in this league. IMO, that supersedes the need to pass on him for a Dman. The equivalent to this would be like passing on Malkin/Ovechkin type for a Hedman, Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo, Hickey etc. You would have to be on crack to think thats worth it.
Edmontons need for goaltending and defense is immediate. Anyone they take this draft would be awhile away from making a true impact. If anything, Edmonton might trade that pick for say...Suter from Nashville. But no chance they waste a first or second overall pick to try and improve those issues through the draft. Watch for guys like Gagner or MP to go. |

just a guess here... not really "hinting" at anything... but I"m guessing that the Habs win the lottery "somehow" ... new ownership which needs to be bought off to allow the move of a franchise to Quebec City.
and I'm guessing Edmonton trades their pick for an established defenseman.
Minnesota also has a high pick... which I can see being moved for a defenseman. |
