He'll trade it but for Luongo. - dt99999
Thankfully Luongo has a deal that allows him to back out his 12 year deal after 6 years. And has a clause in it that says if he demands a trade they have to trade him. His contract isn't as bad people make it out to be.

i just hope leafs dont trade the 5th overall pick for iginla (usually burke fleeces them, dont get me wrong, i wouldnt mind having iginla on the leafs but not at the expense of the 5th overall pick) - matt1337
NO f*ucken way, that pick either goes for Schnieder or some other YOUNG proven goalie. Remember the key word is PROVEN, that's does not include Harding or Bernier. Remember that's how we got shafted with Toskala. He was a young back up playing a on a SJ that was superb on defense.. They made Toskala look better than he was. Honestly for what it will cost us in trade to get a Harding or a Bernier, plus there both their unproven as a #1 goalie, the Leafs may aswell go with Reimer & Scrivens next year. It would be stupid to trade something of value for another unproven goalie. Actually Scrivens looked better than Reimer & Gus. |

UG, I was at the game tonight... brother I have to apologize, here I've been this whole time saying that all the Leafs needed was a decent goalie but heck if I understand how this team did so well the first half of the season... they were (frank)ing horrible from start to finish and from the net out.
no hustle, no heart, no try... nothing!

I agree. I can see them now trading MP and/or Gagner for some defensive help. They wont waste a first or second overall for one. They know they arent one player away from contending so the need for a dman isnt as strong as it would need to be to trade such a valuable pick. They need goaltending just as bad as a dman anyways.
Grigorenko has the size and skill to be a Malkin type player in this league. IMO, that supersedes the need to pass on him for a Dman. The equivalent to this would be like passing on Malkin/Ovechkin type for a Hedman, Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo, Hickey etc. You would have to be on crack to think thats worth it.
Edmontons need for goaltending and defense is immediate. Anyone they take this draft would be awhile away from making a true impact. If anything, Edmonton might trade that pick for say...Suter from Nashville. But no chance they waste a first or second overall pick to try and improve those issues through the draft. Watch for guys like Gagner or MP to go. - Gunslinger
If Grigorenko is the next Malkin, Murray is the next Niedermayer.
The Oilers have done everything through the draft. They aren't going to start pissing away 2nd overall picks for unsigned, pending UFAs.
Keep watching for Gagner and MP to go. |

just a guess here... not really "hinting" at anything... but I"m guessing that the Habs win the lottery "somehow" ... new ownership which needs to be bought off to allow the move of a franchise to Quebec City.
and I'm guessing Edmonton trades their pick for an established defenseman.
Minnesota also has a high pick... which I can see being moved for a defenseman. - BorjeFan4Ever
So, in short, Gunnarsson and Schenn for the 2nd and 7th overall picks.

Pretty sure it would cost a bit more than that. I like Gunnarsson and all, but he's not worth a top 10 pick |

I agree, the 3rd pick was their for the taking by Toronto, hec even Edmonton had a chance to pass the Leafs, but the Leafs f*ucked that up to. The only team that we couldn't go below was the Jackets. With a little bit of bad luck hec the Leafs could be picking 29th & have their choice of either Russian top rated center.
What I see happening, the Jackets take RW Yakupov. Edmonton will draft a d-man, Montreal will take the one of the two Russian centers, Isles have Tavares at center plus they have another top prospect centerman in Strome, so they won't be taking a center, they'll probably grab a d-man, that leaves the Leafs to choose either the other Russian center or the other center from Sweden Forsberg.
If the Leafs with the 5th pick don't get bumped out of that pick like what happened with Ottawa last year when NJ with the 8th pick won the lottery, jumping up to 4th, as long as this doesn't happen to TO, Leafs should get one of the top centers. - GCHonda
The Leafs should keep there pick because we are guaranteed one of;
Grigorenko
Galchenyuk
Forsberg
Gaunce
If neither of these guys are available then you look to move down and add more picks or deal it as part of a package for a #1 Center who is no older than 27 and signed for minimum of 3 more years. Or you draft best kid available, even if a defenseman. This draft pick won't be ready for a couple of years and by then Phaneuf will be UFA and Hopefully Gardiner and Schenn have established themselves. |

I also agree they build through the draft, but if they do trade the pick...IF...learn to read, then they'll trade it for a proven young stud Dman before taking a chance on a dman from this draft which would still be a gamble.
I'd take Malkin over Neids anyday. But the draft is a crap shoot outside the top 2 picks for the most part, and recent history has shown that dmen take longer to develop, if at all. Ala Schenn, Doughty, Pietrangelo, Hickey etc. Pretty good dmen but not even close to Malkin elite.
My bad, I suppose suggesting MP or Gagner for goaltending and defensive depth must be laughable and absurd. I should have known those two untouchables will never be traded. I guess you're thinking if those untouchables are going nowhere, Eberle, Hall and RNH are on their way out. |

Why would the Oilers go for a "Malkin" type player when they already have Hall, Eberle and RNH? They're set up front. They don't need Grigorenko. He has a huge bust factor too.
Murray is exactly what they need. At worst, Dumba fits. They are way better off trading down just one or two spots, acquiring an extra 2nd round pick or something, and taking the guy they need.
Just because you want Malkin over Niedermayer, doesn't mean the Oilers do. Sorry to tell you systemtool. |

I really find it incredible how someone truly believes they can make a case for any team not needing Malkin. Just because you feel the draft is the only possible way for the Oilers to improve their D and goaltending, and that having a few potential stars make having more pointless, doesn't mean the Oilers do. Sorry to tell you systemtool.

I really find it incredible that Grigorenko is already the next Malkin. Instantly. Just because you say so. If Grigorenko is Malkin, then RNH is Yzerman, Hall is Shanahan, Murray is Niedermayer etc.
Fact is, Grigorenko has been compared to Malkin because he is the same size and he's Russian and because it's easy to hype up players to simple minded viewers who don't know any better. The reality is he probably won't be. Just like Murray probably won't be Niedermayer.
The Oilers have rebuilt their team through the draft and they need defenders. They don't need to start trading picks and players away when they have the ability to do it for themselves with Murray and Dumba sitting right there. |

The Oilers will take the best player, despite any other foolish ideas. Fact is, Grigorenko is projected to go higher than Murray or Dumba because he is a better player.
I never said they need to trade picks away. Im saying they will take the best player available as history has shown.
Grigorenko is hyped because he has shown potential and skill worthy of it. Not because simple minded people like you think teams pass on the better player for a need that may never be filled. |
