Hello, Oilers again, eh?

Brad Ross with 4 goals last night, 7g in 7games. Not bad.

Trying to think what Burke would do for the goalie situation...

Schneider - He drafted him didn't he? unproven, young, and coming out of a good system. Risky.

Luongo - hmmm maybe, I wouldn't be happy about what we would lose to obtain him however. Expensive choker but wins games.

Bernier - see Schneider*

Kiprusoff - 35 could this be old fashioned sell future for old vets on their downswing? Maybe, but Kipper played 70 games this season, he would be getting a rest in TO. Calgary is a poopty team so you know he's actually good. Burke would have to get crafty but I think Kipper is the perfect candidate. 2 years left on his 5.8mil contract too. Not sure the cost to obtain, but Calgary is rumored to be on a youth movement. It would be interesting to swap picks in a trade package involving Kipper (could land Gaunce still).

Roloson - 40? 45? But the guy still has game, looked fantastic in March & April. Cost only $, no assets lost, 1 year term, cheap, his kids are already in TO. Experienced vet and only needs to play 40ish games. Risky, but a solid plan B if Kipper's cost is too much.

Harding - I like the guy but no thanks, he's not the game stealer Leafs are looking for.

Backstrom - had an off year but is usually a top goalie in the league. 1 year left on a 6mil cap hit. I don't know what Minni's financial status is or if they've given up on backstrom due to his injuries, but he could be a possibility.

So I guess I'm saying we should grab Kipper out of this list. Second choice Roloson. What would you offer for Kipper and their 1st (Gaunce?)?

Our 1st (Forsberg/Reilly/Dumba) + Colborne + Blacker + Connolly/Komisarek is my proposal

There are some very good dmen ranked high in this draft.

Draft the best player available.

IMO.

I agree. Should treat it like a stock market, get the highest value you can.

The thing that scares me is that Burke still saying Reimer is the real deal and I'm worried his goalie solution is getting a veteran backup similar to Giggy.

The other thing that scares me is when he was hired he was saying all this stuff about being truculent and building from the net out. Sounds pretty much like what he is saying right now.

In other words, sounds like Burkie gave himself a mulligan.

Unfortunately other players his age are already playing in the NHL, there is no future for him according to GM's around here.

Are you talking about Schenn? Rumor was Burke was trying to unload him in a big way at trade deadline.

He is way too young and has a lot of NHL experience already. I wouldn't give up on him.

Yeah, sounded a lot like his 2008 presser, minus the cockiness.

But Schenn sucks too, so you can't blame him for thinking that's who it was.

So from last night's results I think 5th spot is still a good spot to be. Worst case scenario we get Forsberg or Galcheyuk. If things go in a really strange way, Grigorenko could fall to that pick. Either way it looks like the top 5 players is solidified. I would be happy with any one of Murray, Grigorenko, Galch and Forsberg.

hahahaha

actually.. in fairness.. i am hoping carlyle can bring schenn's game back.. his structure and style are far more suitable for schenn's skillset.. could be the best thing to happen to schenn in his career

now.. if schenn's game does rebound that would be great.. however it will also be a bit of a telling sign as to his versatility. We now know that Schenn isnt particularly suited for an up tempo forecheck system, so its looking like we are finding out what his limitations are.... which unforunately lowers his market value.

but i will take what i can get.. if carlyle can turn him into a stable reliable stay at home d-man i will be happy

Grigorenko looks to be heading to the Habs, add in that Roy might or will be the coach, voila!
