Our first plus Gardiner to Detroit for the 169th pick. Can't lose
- Canada Cup

Immediately after they make the pick though.

I think every second episode took place at an amusement park!

you know what always threw me for a loop, the bad guy in the opening sequence who looked like he was made of fire and scooby and shaggy were hiding in the drawers... I never, ever saw that episode!

no, the Pens have a good GM
- Barx

They do. But they did have an advantage with Crosby.

I don't agree with Burke saying that model is all about Sid because there is Malkin, Letang, Fleury and so many other good players too.

But when you have Sid it does help the stats of other players and bring up their value. Also helps bringing in free agents to fine tune the roster.

With all due respect, they followed ISS rankings for all those first picks, what he did was hang on to those picks, that's it.

The CLB model is equal to revealing 4 of a possible 5 cherries on a scratch ticket, only to reveal the last one being a grape.

Leafs don't even have enough to buy the scratch ticket.

no no..the maple leaf model is to buy used losing scratch tickets

You have to be really smart to pick Syd with your number one
- Canada Cup

there is a hell of lot more to their 'model' than just picking Crosby. Don't be so short sighted and naive.
The same 'model' used by the Hawks and more recently the Blues....it isn't a new thing.
You have a plan, you stick to it, period.
Burke said his plan was to build a truculent team and build from the net out. Instead he has had horrific goaltending, weak defense and the softest team in the league. He didn't stick to his plan.

He did stick to his plan......only problem is he put his faith in Reimer, Beauch, Komi, Schenn and Phaneuf.
He thought his plan could work with crap players.

I'm pretty sure the CLB model is to trade:

Nash

for

Callahan, Stepan, Del Zotto, Kreider, Zuccarello, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick.

no, thats not it.
rather than try and circumvent a proper build, he stuck to a plan.
Not only did he draft and develop intelligently,he then he signed key ufas and traded for necessary pieces such as Guerin, Kunitz and now Neal.

Honestly, the way we played PIT coming out of the allstar break I don't think anyone could say that TOR was out of shape or a team that would miss the playoffs let alone finish 5th last overall.

I think the major major major problem is that he put his faith in Monster when he first signed him and then later Reimer and he got burned big time.

If you keep the exact same roster and add only a goalie like maybe Halak then they make the playoffs and the criticism of many of the players goes away.

Would they have been a team to contend for years and years, I don't know, but in my opinion goaltending cost them a playoff spot this year anyways. Maybe that's a good thing.
