"if you expected him to do fire either of them, you are living in a dream world"
Thats fine, he's the Billionaire not me. But if he expects to do business like that and not get blasted by the fans, HE is the one living in a dream world.
I also come from a business background, and all of the best people I worked for and worked with were far more aggressive and less patient. I've never seen loyalty like this payoff of the business world. Its like running a restaurant where you feel its more import to cater to your employees and suppliers needs than your customers. - Buffalo--Sabres
I agree, for the most part. However, he insists that's how he has got along. That's the key here. And to my knowledge, other than the "putting humpty-dumpty back together again" comment, he hasn't said "don't criticize me" to my knowledge. Now, in the oil fracking industry, perhaps his customer base is smaller than most. In other words, he has fewer customers than most who shell out big bucks, as opposed to multiple customers that shell out smaller amounts that add up. Sports isn't like that, and he's going to have to learn that, but it isn't going to take him a year. Like I said, I don't agree with the decision to keep them, but at the same time, if you actually do some research into his background, it shouldn't surprise anyone. That's just not how the guy operates. I'm not saying it's right or it's wrong, just that it is what it is. If you're in a successful state in life, you go with what got you there. It's an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality (personally, not the team).
Keep in mind, too, it's not really "loyalty" just yet. Ruff and Regier have been his employees for only a year. A lot of the fiascos that have happened over the past 5+ years had a lot to do with management and ownership (i.e. Quinn and Golisano). Take the Drury story. Supposedly a deal was set, and final approval had to come from above (either Quinn or Goliano). They dragged their feet on the approval, and Drury said the hell with it. I'm sure Terry Pegula is of the mindset "that would never happen under my watch". Like Black said this morning (paraphasing), "I don't know who's fault (the Drury and Briere situation) was, and frankly, I don't care". The bottom line is that these two have been operating under Pegula's terms, which are vastly different from previous ownership, for only a year. As an outside observer, we don't see how things can be any different, but the bottom line is that Ruff and Regier have done everything Pegula and co. asked them to. Go out and get a better team, and we all believed they were by losing Connolly and acquiring Regehr, Ehrhoff and Leino (well, maybe not Leino). |

He didn't really come from a business with a customer service background, so his thinking doesn't swing that way. He will probably have to change the way he does things, just like was said above a few posts, but they also said they'd like to essentially pattern the organization like the Pittsburgh Steelers. |

I think my cat woke me up around there. Kicked her out of my room and fell back asleep within 10 mins and then finally got up at noon. |

I don't want to beat a dead horse over this thing. People know how I feel. A few billion dollars and you can make those calls, not me. I will say this though, winning fixes everything. We do better next year, this all goes away. |
