Is there some sort of unwritten rule that the refs will only check the clock with like, under 20 seconds left? I'm sure at every whistle during the period, some tenths or even a second click off that they sometimes check and correct if it's right at the end of the game. Detroit could have used a few of those tenths at the end of the 2nd

So when a second clearly clears off the clock with like, 9 seconds left, and the coach complains... who initiates a clock change? I do realize that the refs don't themselves keep track of the official time, but it seems it's only at the end of a period that they "fix" the clock.

it's alright, king, as long as the players aren't nervous, and something tells me they aren't. i like our chances today. normally, i'd say afternoon home game on nbc against the pigeons was an automatic loss....not feeling that today.
