James van Riemsdyk (broken foot) skated on with his teammates Saturday with a protective shield on his skate. It was an optional skate but a big step in the right direction for JVR, who has not played since March 1st after undergoing corrective foot surgery to repair a broken bone in his left foot. "It's the time of the year where you want to do everything you can to get out there on the ice and I'm excited to be a little closer," van Riemsdyk said. "It's a good step in the right direction to be out on the ice with the guys." If the Flyers get past the Penguins in round one, there is a good chance we will see JVR in round two.

He either has a nasty sprain or a fracture I think. Either way they probably will be without him until the third round, worst case. That's just my guess. |

I don't even know what the phantoms are doing, but it would be good I think, for the league, if they allowed players returning from injury to go down to the minors for a rehab assignment without having to clear waivers. They do it in baseball. |
