there was NO intent behind shaw's actions. he wasn't out of control he was skating hard, playing hockey not targetting a defenseless goalie. he couldn't stop he was skating too fast. i've seen that kind of play a million times and the first 999.999 times the goalie got out of the way or didn't take up the whole entire space. - flyerscup2011
How one can make it to the NHL without being aware of where the goalie is and knowing he isn't supposed to make contact with him is mind boggling.

and this stuff will continue to go on.. as will embellishing.. until the league discontinues the practice of factoring injury into discipline decisions
not saying i agree either way.. but that's the way it is - Crimsoninja
Pretty soon, people will be embellishing embellishing.

It is...and with the bugaboo about concussions, how is the NHL going to say that it was BS?

Its a huge pity that Alfie is not able to dress. I think he might be done for this year. Having a conky and then a 'setback' is a very bad sign. For the Sens are playing NY closer than I thought they would. And with the way things are going, if FL beats the Devils and Boston beats Caps, then we play NY next (assuming we win here), which I really don't want. - PT21
I would be surprised if FLD beats the Devils. I totally agree it is a bummer, I would love to see the NYR knocked out of the POs as soon as possible, even if that means by us.

that's why he tried to avoid smith. if you ask me smith is responsible for his own injury. the nhl needs to be like boxing where the last thing the ref tells you is protect yourself at all times

Link Gaetz made it to the NHL.
Still one of the best quotes in NHL history. Lou Nanne drafted Modano and Gaetz in the first and second rounds in 1988. Nanne said afterward, "We drafted Mike in the 1st round to protect the franchise and we drafted Link in the 2nd round to protect Mike. We should have drafted a lawyer in the third round to protect Link

The problem is, you're not allowed to touch a goalie, anywhere on the ice. Regardless of whether one agrees with it or not, Smith is supposed to be off limits to any contact there.
I think Shaw tried to avoid him, but I don;t think he tried as hard as he could have. I also think that Smith did embellish it a bit.

1 gm ok, but three? Weber obviously a huge miss. I don't buy conspiracy theories and I think Neal and Asham will get what's coming to them. Thank goodness too, Asham on the ice for next game would seriously concerns me for the Flyers players health and well being.
I am really liking the comments from the Flyers in the face of the meltdown by the Pens.. I only want them to focus on winning the game and sending the Pens packing ASAP. No retribution etc... I want them to win and begin preparing for the next round. Period.

He did not "try" to avoid Smith at all. Ferraro was on radio this morning and said that Shaw's defence was that he was going in to play the puck. Well the puck was going to come around the boards. Shaw's body angle was exactly opposite to where a player would have it if he was attempting to stop a puck played or rimmed around the boards. He leaned into Smith vs. the boards. I think Shaw might have originally thought about playing the puck but when he saw he wasn't going to stop it in time he changed his mind and said I might as well do some damage while I'm here.

+1 - the sooner this thing is over the more time they have to rest. They could use it too after this battle. - coffee junkie
I want Wednesday's game to be uneventful and boring as hell. I hear the rabble on WIP and other places talking about retribution and going after Crosby and I can only think one thing...."they are idiots".
A game basically off Sunday and 3 more days. If the Flyers win Wednesday then Kimmo and the rest of the D will be well rested and healed by round 2. - Deasr1
I'm sure people will then complain when the team comes out flat in round two (if they advance).

Agreed. Retribution will be the smiles on their faces when they shake hands Wednesday.
