I think Shaw tried to avoid him, but I don;t think he tried as hard as he could have. I also think that Smith did embellish it a bit.

And I also agree Shaw didn't count on Smith acting like he was shot with a howitzer. Smith ended up not only back in the game, but didn't miss a shift. Hell, he didn't even lose his mask and it's not even strapped on.

i'm a very knowledgeable hockey fan. i don't know the letter of the law of every rule, i doubt anyone truly does. but ugliness is easy to see, you don't need a rule book to explain to you that someone did something egregious. you only need your eyes. knowing that a play is normally a penalty i.e. a crosscheck or slash helps. but it's pretty obvious when a player deserves a suspension

that would be the dumbest thing the flyers could possibly do. if we so much as touch crosby it's gonna be an ugly suspension. plus we finally have some public opinion on our side, let's keep the ball rolling
