I'd say 10 for Torres. He's worse and hossa is totally franked up - FlyersFirst
I don't understand why a player being injured carrys any weight in the decision.
I know that is how it is done, but I don't understand. An illegal hit is an illegal hit.
It just creates more gray area, more confusion.

Torres will get a far more significant penalty. Hossa is hurt, and Torres' history is far more violent than Neal's. - Jsaquella
I stated that earlier, that 40 games would make sense for Torres.
The History thing should weight heavily in any decision.

It shouldn't. The league is absolutely dropping the ball using the *resulted in an injury on the play* rule as a factor at all. Nix the godamn grey already.

Obviously if Couturier or Giroux develop concussion symptoms, the Neal suspension gets amended. - PLindbergh31
I'm okay with just 1 game on Neal. It should only take 1 game to beat the Pens, especially wit the loss of Neal. He was both there best and worst player for the Pens on Sunday. |

I like simplicity, black and white.
And repeat offenders need to suffer a greater penalty.

don't think anyone is arguing what was expected, but what should have happened. Wonder if the ruling would be different tomorrow after Torres hit, more pressure for a longer suspension. - ukeman
I don't think much more should have happened. Neal could have gotten two games, maybe three. I can't get overly pissed at what should be.
Just end their season tomorrow, and they will be suspended for the rest of the year |

I think In light of the Shaw and Asham calls, Torres gets 6 games.

The NHL is going to go Matt Cooke on Torres. They will bury him with a 15-20 game suspension, and tell him the next time will be a year. |

How can any human being, let alone a hockey legend, face the world and blandly declare that this was a collision? Neal makes a beeline for Couturier, has his eyes fixed straight on him, Couts is not looking in that direction, and Neal jumps. Is he just incompetent or too busy to really view it or does he lack self-respect? |

I agree. If I launch myself at a guy's head, and miss, is that better than the guy who makes contact?

so basically he got a game for the roo hit and nothing for the couts hit? okkkkkkkk - flyfan1212
Yup. That's how it is and that's f'n lame.
Obviously intent has little to do with decisions, it's the effect. But you know what, it's a little late for the player that gets hurt. Ask Hossa. |

There is no rhyme or reason to any of these suspensions. Basically Shanahan is using injury as a way to measure the severity of the suspension.
Weber rammed Zetterberg's head into the glass and gets fined $2500, what happens if another player does the same thing and paralyzes a player from the neck down? What does Shanahan do? A $2500 fine is supposed to deter a player from doing what Weber did? Give me a break. That's cab fare for these guys.
It's all a joke, and the NHL is a farce when it comes to discipline. |

The Torres his was exactly the same as the Neal hit on Coots. Only the results differ. |

Your boy Milbury saying Neal should of been banged with more. The Couturier hit was worse and he walks free from it. |

Not really. I'm pretty sure that Neal was going for Couturier's head. Couts being hurt or not should have zero impact on punishment doled out to Neal. |
