I think the league needs to start laying the hammer down hard on this leaving the feet type hits. That hit on Hossa might have ended his career. Anymore force and it could have been a trip to the morgue. Bottom line players have to be competitive but they need to have respect. Their opponents are people that like themselves are trying to win a hockey game. They have families and people that care for them, they are real people. Yes hockey and other sports are violent and dangerous but what torres did borders on criminal imo. I couldn't imagine having to sit there and watch one of my relatives or friends being laid out on a stretcher like that for a senseless play.
I'm all for hard hitting, bare knuckle fighting etc. But hitting an unsuspecting player, who doesn't have the puck and targeting his head is just mother effing ridiculous.
What I would like for the league to do, is in that type of incident which has happened twice in three days in two different games between four different teams, is for the player to be automatically ejected from the game and minimum of five games for the first offense. The only way you get through to these guys is to lay the hammer down hard. One game suspension to Neal is a disgrace. He had one purpose on that shift and that was to injure, not play hockey, not score goals, not even jumpstart his team. He wanted to end two other players's seasons PERIOD. For that he should have gotten a lot worse, especially being a repeat offender. - JoeRussomanno
i agree they need to penalize these hits in severe fashion, but my definition of severe is more like 20-30 games. taking away 25%+ of a season's salary will probably make them take notice, not to mention the internal disruption their absence might cause.
1 game doesn't seem like a lot. But it is a playoff elimination game for the Pens and it's a big loss. So it is significant. Although I wanted him gone for the entire Series.
Exactly. If the Flyers announced after the game both players were out indefinitely would the result of the suspension be different?
It's all a joke. Hard to take the League seriously when there is zero consistency and different rules depending on the importance of a player. - PLindbergh31
Cooke got suspended for 10 games + the first round last year.
Just admit that you think the league is conspiring against the Flyers somehow. - nhindian
i do think that, ask mjl. i don't care what cooke got, he was a goon. i give him credit for cleaning up his act though. i do think the league is out to screw the flyers over as much as possible. i also think they do everything they can to help sidney crosby and his team
So its okay for Crosby to head hunt but not okay for Hartnell?
The NHL has to take control. Their doing a piss poor job imo. - stveshdy
No it's not okay. A star player can still get suspended. But for less games, or maybe just get a fine where a lesser player would get games. I understand where your coming from. Nothing we can do about it.

the funny thing to me is: crybaby is a leo (aug 7) and it would be the cowardly lion and the leo is the lion. sorry i have a weird obsession with astrology

Yep, the League doesn't want the Flyers, who are one of the big market teams in the League, to succeed. All the evidence is there. It's been going on for what, at least 20 years?
Was he? That really is good news...never had a problem with Hossa really. Regardless, I don't want to see anyone in the hospital....*
*Except MAYYYYYYBE Neal (SARCASM) - Giroux_Is_God
Hossa is a class act and one of the best representatives of the sport. Can't say a bad thing about that guy. Although I did have him sitting against the boards after the Pens won the cup as my screensaver for awhile.

Neither the owners, BOG's, or the Players Association would sign on for that. It's a business. The League wouldn't want a marquee player out of the lineup for that long. Have to fill the seats.
Also, to be fair, Neal's fine this year for high-sticking happened as he was falling during a wonderful slew-foot from our favorite resident artist PK Subban.

That is the most ridiculously stupid and bush league thing I have seen since the Chicago rag put Pronger in a tutu. Worse than that, it's not even clever or funny. Re-affirms my decision to not buy that paper or visit their website
