What about the other 19 coaches who have failed to get the leafs to the cup finals.
I doubt the players sulk, but if someone came into your work and started telling you how terrible you are, and the newspaper said how terrible you are... eventually it will have an effect on you.
We can move out players, bring in new ones... but eventually it all ends up the same.. - senstroll
Of the players who left the Leafs in recent history, which ones went to have amazing NHL careers?
Maybe the fact that, a lot like Montreal, the players aren't very good to begin with is the reason these teams suck. Not the fans and media. |

Is there any difference between Torres hit and James Neal's hit on Sean Couturier on Sunday? First, both of these guys are considered repeat offenders. Neal's hit was even later than Torres', they both left their feet and hit an unsuspecting player with their shoulder. Main point of contact was chest on both and the only difference was that Hossa smacked his head hard on the ice and obviously sustained an injury. If Shanahan did not suspend Neal for his hit, how can he suspend Torres for this hit? - garbow
Neal did get a suspension. And principal point of contact? You watch the same hit I did? |

Guess the speed also made them miss the lateness, interference, etc.
No excuse. Should have been a penalty. And Torres has an extensive history of this garbage. - GuyLaDouche
See the look on Bettman's face when the Torres hit happened right in front of him? |

I'm sure glad Bettman introduced the instigator rule.
Remember how "barbaric" things were back in the 80's? I like this way of doing things (one star player injured per day, followed by unpredictable suspensions) much better. |

what about them?
i mean seriously....man up.. i got contractors who call and female dog me out all the time.. i just bear down, let them get it out of their system and then go back to work.. i know what i can do.. i dont need someone else telling me how good i am.. and i'm also not going to let their opinion of me get under my skin
these guys are pros and paid very well to deal with the exact type of pressure you are talking about.. i will never give creed to this analogy.. not ever.. its an excuse.. and weak people make excuses.. strong people own up and go back to work. - Dozzer
No disrespect, but that comparison is not worth mentioning. None of us have any idea what its like to be a leaf player.

Neal's suspension was for his hit on Claude Giroux. Not on Coutturier. |

Have you ever performed somethign at a extremely high level, where everyone around you is just as good as you if not much more talented?
Ohh BTW when you're in your 20s - HipHopisDead
yes.. if you consider my job.. i got guys who call up FUMING because designs are delayed.. and their sites costs them 10s of thousands of dollars a day to be down
pressure is pressure.. right now I am in the process of releasing a 500K$ project to production.. and thats just for part of the project.. its an MTO job, and if its delayed it will cost people hundreds of thousands of dollars..
if the plant guys mess up.. I hear it.. if the sales staff makes unkeepable promises i hear it.. and i have done this job since coming out of college.
the pressure is high.. i do not take that away from NHL players.. but they are paid to deal with it.. and as i already said.. excuses are for weak people.. if you didnt get the job done own up to it and move forward.
other teams in hockey and other sports have HUGE amounts of scrutiny as well from their fanbase.. but it doesnt keep them from succeeding.
its an excuse. and personally.. i refuse to justify it. |

I do think Neal should have gotten at least another game. Both hits were pretty targeted.
That being said, Torres' was worse. Way faster, clearly deliberate, targeted from a mile away. Coots played the rest of the game. Hossa left on a stretcher. |

I'll ask Mike Van Ryn next time I see him about it.
He was pretty injured during his tenure so his thought might not be as accurate as say... Luke Schenn or James Reimer. |

The pressure for the team to preform is at an alltime high... the leafs are breaking all the records for futility... If the Fans and Media do no affect the players.. The leafs have the worst collection of Owners, GMs, Coaches and Players over the past 40 years then.
Even though some of those GMs and coaches have won cups elsewhere.

Torres will get 5-10 games because
a) it was Torres(goon)
b) he hit Hossa(star)
c) Hossa left on stretcher(bad injury)
...but had Hossa been paying attention, and had his head up it wouldnt have been that bad. Granted it was a late hit, but he was finishing his check and Hossa was caught looking away. Ended up bad, deserves suspension for the lack hit and possible head hit...but wasnt as bad as people are making it seem, imo. |
