There was a documentary about the whole ordeal... guess he was given the option before the trade went down to call it off.
He didnt. - robin_steele264
Still don't know if I buy that. Remember Puck got 15 million cash and his business ventures were struggling. (as usual) |

Well Gretzky admitted to it... so I dunno.

Hey....what do you guys think? (cause Im a Leafs fan I cant have an opinion about the Sedins without having a trolling purpose )
My argument is that although the Sedins are playing well, they need to step it up even more come playoffs if that team is ever to succeed. They need to man up, moreso than theyve displayed, especially in a time like this when the team is struggling and momentum isnt going their way. Its up to the captain and best players to go above and beyond their normal play and grab the team by the balls to get things going.
No? |

Who knows.
Better anyways. It allowed his wife to focus better on cinematic gems like Police Academy 5 and her gambling ring. |

Not sure how much of this I believe. Sather saying he would have personally stopped it if Gretz wanted him too. How would he have done that, there's no proof that he would have actually been able to. I'm a bit skeptical on it all tbh
Plus, Wayne cried like a baby at the press conference. So either he's an incredible actor and should be making movies, or it was genuine. And since I don't see him winning any Oscars, I'd say he legit didn't want to leave. |

I don't know if they need to step it up per say. They need to gain some playoff consistency I think. When they're playing like themselves in the playoffs they're successful, but one little faulter and it's promblematic because the other team will try that much harder to keep them faultering than they probably would in the regular season. They just need to find more consistency come playoff time in my opinion, not necessarily step it up. I know those are almost the same thing...but do you understand what I'm trying to say? |

On August 9, 1988, in a move that heralded significant change in the NHL, the Oilers traded Gretzky, along with McSorley and Krushelnyski, to the Los Angeles Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, $15 million in cash, and the Kings' first-round draft picks in 1989 (later traded to the New Jersey Devils—New Jersey selected Jason Miller), 1991 (Martin Ručínský), and 1993 (Nick Stajduhar). |

Agreed. But I hope a team like the Canucks never wins. Filled with a bunch of classless whiners and divers, from management to the players. (waits for Canucks fans to compare Canucks to Leafs even though thats irrelevant to the situation). |

That trade brought back Joe Murphy, Petr Klima and Adam Graves, all key elements in our last Cup win.

Let's not forget that Wayne Gretzky got a Saturday Night Live appearance out of the deal, as well. That must have sealed it for him. |
