I've despised Raffi Torres since the 2006 playoffs when he took a cheap shot elbowing Milan Michalek squarely in the face. No penalty.
I just watched the entire sequence and have changed my post - Torres clearly targeted Hossa from over 20 feet... throw the book at him |

After all those suspensions handed out today, you know they'll want to say "Stop this you crazy bastards." I've never seen so many suspensions/fines in one round. - AdamFrench
Clearly they should have announced the Neal/Asham suspensions before the players hit the ice today. Set the precident before crap like this had a chance to go down |

This should help, Hossa has left Northwestern Memorial Hospital. - AdamFrench
It helps a bit. I've explained this to some friends. It's not the hit that upsets me. It's hockey. IMO, Torres makes that hit in every game. It's the news this afternoon about Shaw's suspension, Shanahan's inconsistency that is getting me upset. I'm getting upset thinking about what he is going to do.... or not going to do in that case. We'll see... a couple beers, some great, physical hockey... my blood boils! |

Cooke his ass. By that I mean coming close to 20. |

He left his feet a bit that is the issue compared to other cheap sh$$ going on. Damage done by force of hit nothing else. Let Shanny deal with it. Chill. |

Nice write up Adam, and a honest assesment of the situation.
With the hit, Torres leaving his feat, and the fact Hossa was carried off in a stretcher and Torres is a repeat offender, I'm thinking 10 games and the max fine. |

It will never happen but if the NHL were truly serious about eliminating head-shots they would institute a game-for-a-game: you are eligible to return when the player you injured is medically cleared. |

AND The Blackhawks get a minor penalty on the play . The ref's have been (frank)ing terrible again. At the end of the 2nd there was pushing and shoving and Toews was the only one penalized. I was telling all of the NHL needs Phoenix to win conspiracy theorist to shut up but Jesus Christ tonight has been terrible. |

This guy needs to be punished ...send him to play for the Leafs for the remainder of his career. - keatondixon
Too bad the hit occurred in the US. Our constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishment. |

Just something to ponder. I wonder if the game itself has morphed out of the physical confines it plays in (200 X 85 sheet of ice). The players today are huge compared to the 60's players. Equipment is like body armor. There is no fear factor with these guys anymore. |

Yes, but here in Canada, Hossa would not receive a $5000 bill for his trip to hospital tonight. Constitution? Constischmution! |

That could and probably would lead to some really silly things man. What about clean hits where a player is hurt? Do they go back on the tape to see hits and then give penalties in hindsight? |

That would just give them more speed. Bigger crashes at Bristol or Talladega? |

To be fair to the refs what the ysaw was Bollig attacking Torres randomly over a "clean hit," in that situation it's understandable for them to call the extra of him. |

That's it. Give the players restrictor plates. |

To clarify, when a player is being reviewed for suspension, not on any play resulting in injury.

Make the fines more representative of what the outcome of a bad check can actually be. $2500 dollars is nothing to these guys; Give them $50,000 fines instead and they start to take notice. |

The players association would cause a 7 year lockout before that |

I would like to see him gone for the remainder of the playoffs, plus 10 games next season. He just doesn't seem to care that he is reckless.
He will probably get something like 4 games though. |
