Picked up a habit? Are you saying you gave you neighbor, with a drug habit, money for work he hasn't done yet? Consider this a lesson learned, cut ties and bring your car to a real mechanic. - Dkos
Used to do automotive work on the side, before I got hurt and never had a complaint. For starters there were things that were over my head and just told people straight up. An example would be tranny work. No I cannot rebuild transmission. I would suggest to people unless the "guy doing sidework" has some sort of certification ASE for example, don't trust him and go to a shop. Even some electrical stuff you should just suck it up and go to a reputable shop.
Head gaskets, tune ups, fluid changes, belts and hoses even suspension and brake work can be done by most people with a tool box and the know how. One thing with a real shop is they are more accountable than some guy off the streets. You'd be surprised the stuff that used to be simple stupid though that really does need to be done in a shop now. Just recently took my car to change the rear oxygen sensor b.c it threw a code. Like I said I can't do it anymore. Got into bsing with the guy at the shop because it was slow and asked him why he had to go back and mess around on the computer after he put the sensor in. Apparently just disconnecting the batter isn't enough anymore to clear the code, and if you don't clear it the way he did, you can burn out the new sensor. |

This. I don't think that at this point you can go back to the way things were. Not with the debate about concussions and head shots. The ONLY answer is longer suspensions and much stiffer fines. Also, don't make a decision on a suspension based on whether the guy that got hit illegally got hurt or not. Its idiotic to give an offending player a pass because his target doesn't miss the next 10 games or so. - Emperor Filonius
Emphatically agree with the bolded. |

Then that's what needs to happen. The NHL and the NHLPA should sit down and figure it out. The blame isn't solely on the NHL, the PA has to be as proactive. |

the other problem with the the violence in the playoffs this season, they are pointing to the fact that interest has gone way up, the ratings are better and they are all driven by the bottom line - Marc D
Violence does bring attention. The Flyers of the 1970's were a guaranteed sell out on the road. The key is define the line and hammer guys that cross it. |

i just want to keep things civil. i'm a very civil person. i may engage in wars of words, but it would take a real real lot to get me to become physically violent. i hope he admits he's wrong and is cool about it. - flyerscup2011
If there is even a sniff that it might go off the rails I would recommend just backing away and letting it go. You say he's a neighbor. It's not worth the trouble over that amount of money imo.
I had a similar situation where I had a contractor who'd I'd dealt with twice before do a kitchen backsplash tile job for me. I didn't get a quote first. My bad. I "thought" the job should be $1K max. He charged me $2K. We finally agreed on $1200. Needless to say I'm never using him again. Lesson learned. Get EVERYTHING you possibly can in writing. Don't pay full pop for anything before all the work is completed and you're satisfied. Pay by CC as much as possible (was already mentioned here). |

Got to remember, Shanahan answers to the owners and GMs. The league has to decide if it's going to go back to letting the players police the game and force opposing players to have more respect or if the NHL is going to step up and enforce respect.
The reason there was "respect" back in the day was because if you hit Wayne Gretzky, Dave Semenko was going to be paying you a visit, and if you turtled, your teammates would lose respect for you. Now, turtling gets you a five minute PP. - Jsaquella
He should answer to the rule book. The owners/GM's have the ability to change or create new rules, but shouldn't be able influence the rules once they are set. |

They talked about that here on sports radio yesterday. Flyers/Pens tv numbers were very good. But they would have been good anyway, without the nonsense. There were a fair few calls from people saying they had or would tune out if the nonsense continued. I have to admit, outside of the Flyers, I'm not making an effort to watch as many games as I can this playoffs. |

There's no firm rules, though.
Nothing that says Neal has to be suspended for 5 games for hitting Couturier's head. Nothing that says Torres has to be suspended for his hit on Hossa. |

Glad to see so many of you (frankly just about everyone who I expected would) being embarrassed by that inane cover. That goes well beyond the pale of of an entity holding itself out as conveying journalism. Crosby is understandably never going to be well liked in Philly, but this stuff just reeks of amateur hour crap.
Anyways, I'll keep this short. The Flyers have earned everything they've gotten to get to this point, and for what its worth, while I don't plan on rehashing every moment of Sunday, I was embarrassed by what took place from a Penguins perspective. I found the amount of strident vitriol it generated from some here and on Flyers fans inundating our board to be somewhat amusing considering its the same kind of mayhem Flyers teams have been pulling for their entire existence. When your team markets itself with the Bullies persona, you are what you are and one series worth of being the more disciplined, composed team doesn't change that. Not saying there was no right to be angry about what the Pens did, I just found it amusing for the shoe to be on the other foot of this REALLY bizarre series. Just my $.02.
But to be clear, that didn't make what the Pens did any less distasteful from my perspective and I have no issue with the suspensions that we assessed.
I have no idea how tonight will play out tonight, but the Pens just looked too out of sorts to me on Sunday for me to be hopeful that they are capable of turning things around tonight. The Flyers are in their heads, and kudos to them. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not holding out much hope. - Emperor Filonius
You're good people. I am in the group of thinking the tabloid was distasteful and counter productive. Could only be used to fuel the flames when what we want is a quite and uneventful game 4. |

Well technically it's Shannys job to understand when and when not a guy should be suspended even if the rule isn't set in stone...and he's been doing a pisspoor job. |

It's the same as Carchidi asking Crosby why he doesn't like Voracek.
It's the playoffs, is Crosby supposed to say, "Yeah, I can't wait to go to Starbucks with him and then we can give each other a pedicure"
Brad's right, lowest common denominator. I'd rather celebrate my team than tease the opponent. |

Well, the rules do provide some guidelines. Injuries are a factor that can be used to determine length. Repeat incidents can be a factor against a player, provided they occur in a certain timeframe.
But Shanahan is the face of things. He gets pressure and guidance from the BOG and GM's. |

Outside of the Weber turnbuckle head smash, and the stick spear from Franzen, the Detroit Nash series has been played at a pretty high, "clean" level. But I haven't watched every minute of every game, too busy with work.
Sunday's Flyers game disgusted me even though they won.
Not blaming one side or the other, I just didn't like it. |

Flyers saying the right things today
"It is what it is," Danny Briere said. "I can't change anything about that. Peter [Laviolette, coach] told us that suspension or not, it would be irrelevant to the game and I truly believe that. These guys have their backs to the walls so I expect them to play with a lot of desperation and that's why we have to be ready and leave it out all there tonight if we want to clinch." |

It's horrible. But they are trying to sell papers. It is what it is. But it doesn't speak about is "real fans" who love hockey and our team. Other fans live on drama and yell SHOOT during a Power Play when there aren't any shooting lanes. |

Hire better writers if you want to sell more papers. |
