Do you have a better quality video of the hit, or another angle? It still looks like a shoulder to me and Malkin is looking at the puck the entire time.

He's a beast in the post season. Scary injury. Hopefully he can at least be normal again off the ice.

I hate Pronger always have but I wish him well in his recovery. I don't want to see anyone live like that.

Wow, Flyers fans are really fixating on Malkin. Good. Maybe the media will play it up too and get the team off their game by getting it in their heads to head hunt Malkin. News to whiny Flyers fans, you guys lost because you played poorly last night. Deal with it.
- powerhouse

No.. we lost because we played like poop.

That I am dealing with. But at the same time.. I hate seeing guys get hit in the head because of a reckless hit attempt. Malkin isnt going anywhere, and the Flyers wont go looking for revenge. I just want that sneaky poop out of the game. I know how pissed you guys would be if something like that happened to crosby. I know you were all pissed when he and Fehr collided at the Winter Classic, and that was more of a collision than a hit.

this is the problem with the league calling hits based on what they think intent was.. I am not referring to any of the hits from this series.

1. was their physical contact if yes then move to the next step
2. was the contact above the shoulders , move to the next step
3. was the player defenseless, move to the next step
4. was the primary point of contact the head, automatic 1 game suspension with additional games added based on repeat offender and injury .

Makes no difference if its Rinaldo or Malkin it should be the same set of rules for everyone.

And if you watch it again...you'll see he actually brings his arm in toward his body as he approaches and makes contact with Grossman.

I understand perception...but you have to acknowledge reality.

Reality at least brings up the question of intent.

Good thing we didn't. He hasn't proven anything yet and will likely find himself passing water bottles at the end of the bench.

You only included #3 for one reason...fighting.

So intentional hits to the head in a fight will be ok...provided the guy can fight/defend himself.

But incidental head contact...like say a player falls and clips another guys head, should get a 1 game suspension?

Not the reason I included number 3..If two guys drop the gloves then they both know going in their is a chance they can get concussed.

Maybe the first static point needs to be Was it a body check in which one player initiated contact.

again I am focused on anything that has occurred in this series as much as the fact the concept on ruling on intent is silly.

need to show up after a loss since i was in here after wins. just a miserable display by the flyers last night, and also what i expected from the penguins. a lot of jump and determination. it wasnt hockey thanks to the officials, but regardless of penalties and everything else, the penguins were by far the better team last night. i just hope they relax a bit in game 5 and let them play hockey. i understand it was necessary to keep it tight, but that was extreme.

does it matter if he's bringing his arm towards his body or away? he hit his head as the point of contact, not his shoulder or his chest, his head and that's what the league is trying (we think) to eliminate.

It's part of the game. Esp in a game where anything and everything is being called. And you know that any coach will use it in talking to their team as well...'If you feel a stick on you, go down' Anything to gain an advantage, I guess

The league is trying to eliminate intentional ones; not the kind that Letang suffered in Dallas or that Grossmann took early in the first last night. (I didn't see him get popped by Kennedy later in the game).

agreed - I did not want to come here today but I had to, I've been here for the wins, so it's only fair. the pens definitely outplayed us last night, by far. I just hope we can bounce back and take game 5.

its not part of the game. it has become more and more widespread, but diving and embellishment is not inherent to the sport.

I think the one in Dallas was intentional and so was last night. both players could easily have gone around the guys.

Watch the replay...

Crosby goes for puck...Grossman protects...Malkin comes in, right hand (with stick) extended...pokes the puck the other way - you can tell because everybody turns to follow it..

Malkin never looks at Grossman. He actually pulls his left arm in toward his body as he gets closer to Grossman.

I think you guys are just looking for a reason to be angry.

- icedog97

They are just a whiney bunch of brats now trying to deflect an embarrassing loss and trying to make excuses for their loss with a hit by Malkin and Kennedy on Grossman, but are fine with the actions of Rinaldo if he did it to Crosby. God knows 99.9999% of that fan base would put Rinaldo into Sainthood if he took him out permanently. However, when one of their's gets him, they go apepoop.

Respective practices should be starting, (at least the Pens, I know, start at 12.) let's hear the post practice interviews, cause, thus far neither team has said anything about it.
