After testifying against these type of circumvention contracts in the Kovalchuck case there's zero chance Burke trades for that contract.

if I'm San Jose
Ryan Clowe, Logan Couture, and Joe Pavelski are my untounchables.
I think you'll see Thorton and Marleau moved before Clowe. - B-Wforever
Maybe if San Jose chokes in the next game they might look at some kind of shake-up/rebuild?? (Go Blues?!?) I'm just hoping the leafs get him or someone like him. |

I wouldn't bet on that. Melnyk stuck with Murray because he realized who really built that Cup winning team in Anaheim. - Unholy_Goalie

This all depends on what the trade would be.
Luongo for Komisarek - yes, bring hm to TO.
Luongo for a 1st, Gunnarson and Frattin - no way.
Let's first talk about the pieces before we say its a good idea or not. - cracka
Ya there would n't be 1st rounder and Komi would have to involved.
Komi and Reimer for Lou.
Edit: Opps forgot the "n't" |

While Murray didn’t build the championship team, he did leave Burke an embarrassing amount of assets to wheel and deal and acquire the final pieces. Burke didn’t have the same luxury with taking the Leaf job, unfortunately for him. |

Loungo would not help the Leafs If they got him. He would probably put up numbers in the low 900s like 902 and have barely over a .500 win %
Is he better than what we have? Yes but i wouldn't sell the farm for him. I really hope this never happens. |

Would you want to trade Reimer? I get that he had a bad year this year, at least relative to his rookie season, but I still like him.
I could see Komi being part of the deal because of the salary. I also think the Leafs are tossing in a 1st and some sort of 2nd tier prospect. |

Embarrassment of riches?
No...maybe 2.
Other than that, most of the forwards and all of the D was changed. |

Meh, Reimer is average at best. I dont mind getting rid of him.
I did make an error in my original post though, it should have sadi "wouldn't involve a first" not would.
Vancity would lucky as hell to get rid of the contract.
Maybe a 2nd rounder but that's it....if Reimer wasn't involved.
If he was....maybe add a 4th.

I'm not talking about the pro roster only. Do yourself a favor and look at the Portland Pirates from 2005-2006. Count how many NHLers there are on that team. THe organizational depth was insane when Burke took over. |

Everyone seems to be thinking about this the wrong way.
"Assets" for Luongo. Thats a laugh. The value in return for Luongo is the cap$.
Any trade for lucky lou at this point, with any team would have to be a Matt lombardi ( Cody Franson) type deal.
I.e. a couple of nobody's to Vancouver in exchange for unloading the expensive reclamation project Luongo with a decent prospect.
Vancouver will have to give up something to unload him, not expect anything decent in return.
I think Toronto has already had their fill of these types of deals.
He wont be coming here. - B-Wforever

Only Aaron Rome (played 1 game), Drew Miller (played 1 game) and Shawn thornton (played 11 games, 0 pts, was -3) were on the Ducks when they won the cup from the pirates team.
Other than only konopka, tim Brent, Glencross, and leighton made the NHL...and they weren't exactly game changers.
I wouldn't call the above insane by any stretch of the imagination. |

K, You aren't seeing the point.
Shannon, Penner, Parenteau, Konopka, O'Brien, Perry, Getzlaf, Smid, Huskins, Rome, Brent, Glencross, Gillies, Kunitz, and Miller.... that was their farm team. All of which played significant NHL minutes afterwards. The reason it is significant isn't because of playing in the finals, it is significant because having that depth meant Burke could move picks, move prospects like what he sent for Pronger (a first, Smid and Lupul) and not feel a thing. |
