Being serious, I can't see Burke acquiring that contract. It is against his principles that he preaches. He has yet to stray from them, and I can't see Luongo being the guy he breaks that stand for either.

My grandma would have a .919 on the nucks.

Perhaps, but the current Leaf goalies would not.

He grooms Reimer and he takes over.

10 years of understudy sounds about right for Reimer.

I can't believe how many luongo haters are here, you are all dumb and buy into stupid hockey cliches... you're probably going to tell me next that the san jose sharks are a terrible playoff team, luongo makes the leafs a significantly better team period, this isnt even a debate

The Canucks have only been in the playoffs the last few years because of Luongo. If they trade Luongo during the offseason, they will not make the playoffs, Schneider has shown no indication he can last a whole season. Before they acquired him, the team was crap, after they trade him, everyone will realize how important he was to the club. I hope to god the Leafs trade for him, he will instantly turn them into a playoff team.

I can't quite understand the hatred being shown toward Luongo, as if he hurts a team more then he helps, the canucks will be sorry, he's a top 5 goaltender handsdown.

So true. Maybe we can get Peter Ing to be the new goalie coach.

Without putting any thought into it, and if I needed to win one game, I'd take all of these over him, i'm sure there are more.

I think people recognize him as top tier talent but something is amiss with the guy. He's been around for ever now and has never done the Roy, Broduer, Thomas thing where he leads his team to a Cup. He might be as talented as those guys, but he's never pulled it ALL together.

Even when the Canucks are doing great things there is always question marks, or so it seems. People aren't imagining these things; they're happening. The guy unravels easily, that's what people see.

Because the Canucks are not as good a team as everyone seems to think, if they do trade him during the offseason, watch them come down to earth.

Lundqvist has a history of being fantastic in the playoffs, nope
Was it Price that carried his team to the conference finals? nope
I'll give you Rinne
Quick is a little premature, played fantastic so far though
and yes obviously thomas is fantastic but would you trade for him? i certainly wouldn't he's way too freaking old

Price, really?
Rinne is more a product of the system.
Lundqvist is awesome, he as well carries the Rangers, and they would not be a playoff team without him.
Quick is a good up and coming young goaltender, but top 5 not yet.
Thomas is a good goaltender, but you have to wonder how he'd perform on a not so defensive team.

Like I said there are goaltenders who are products of the team in front of them, or system being played (Brodeur). Then there are goalies who carry the team like Lundqvist and Luongo, basically they can be put on the worst team in the league and not have there stats effected.

If Vancouver rides the series with Schneider and he takes them to the final, Lui's heads on the block or Schneiders value is going to be severely high.

and yeah it's a cliche, its a stupid thing thing people just throw out there all the time, like the leafs will never win because mlse loves money and fans go to games when they lose, look at luongo's stats in the playoffs, they aren't that much different from his regular season stats, and luongo played well in the first two games, his team played like poop, i'm not even that big of a fan of him, but he's obviously an elite level talent, and when the leafs goaltending is absolutely miserable, a guy like him is a massive improvement

Luongo hasn't been fantastic in the playoffs either, but I don't recall Lundqvist losing his job for playing so god awful. Luongo has only ever had success on strong teams. He never carried the Panthers anywhere before he got to an already well built Canuck team who had Danny friggin Cloutier in net. Price stands out because his team is not good in front of him. Quick is ridiculous.

The real point is trading for Luongo, giving up the assets that will be required to get him, which is probably your first among other things, adding that albatross of a contract for the next decade.... do you honestly want that?

This wont happen.. Burke is to stubborn to take on cap and tarnish his ego.
As well even if this trade did happen this wouldn't make you an instant playoff team because until it happens the Leafs should not even be put in the same sentence as the ''playoffs'' considering their clutch efforts after the past couple of seasons.

On a side note: Luongo cracks under media attention and blows out games crucial games, two pretty common things with the Leafs as well with playing Boston a handfull of times a year.. Some teams just need to know when to let go of their players and this should a prime time to do so for Vancouver with a promising Goalie prospect arising, which is something Vancouver has never really had would be a great time to move him, i just dont see Toronto doing this. Tampa, Columbus, Florida.

Luongo carries the Canucks? Schneider played a lot of games this year and his goals against is almost half a goal a game better than Luongo? Who is carrying them more?

Luongo was a good goalie, I don't think he is any more. I'd take any of the guys I mentioend over him right now, and add Schnieder to the list too while we're at it.

I'm saying that at the end of the day, there are only a select few goalies in the league who are actually the real deal, a majority of the others have strong defensive systems in front of them, or an extremely good core of players. It rings true with plenty of goalies, a quick example would be Bryz, different system, different results. Mike Smith, plugged into the same system, pretty much the same results. Brian Elliot is another one, don't be fooled by his play under Hitchcock, already seen it with Steve Mason, put them on other teams, or different coaches they will not have the same success.
