They do own a pizza place don't they?

Well if they're Italian too, I'm sure they do.

Living near his out-laws trumps playing for the Leafs IMO.

And you are right on this matter.

I'd imagine he'd rather drink cyanide than play for Toronto.

For anyone to suggest someone would waive a hard earned NTC to come to Toronto is insane. I think its people just not thinking about that factor.

I'm not a huge Murray fan but you got to like the coaching choice and the Turris trade.
I hope your team thumps those rangers!

No it is not. He has NTC. He dictates where he gets moved if at all.

Give 3 reasons, hell give me one reason why he'd come to Toronto?

- Domidives

His personal goalie coach growing up, and with the Florida Panthers is employed by the Leafs, Francois Allaire, which by the way was one of his demands in accepting a new contract by the Florida Panthers back in the day.

I never used to be a Murray fan either, it always seemed like he was bewildered when discussing trades, but I've learned to trust him. He hasn't made man bad moves in a while now. Turris is the last time I second guessed him. Turris is a very good player and I think Murray is a very good GM.

also, hiring maclean was stellar. I was onboard with that one though. Every had discussed hw good a guy he is and how positive a person he is. I knew we needed that. Definitely a good hire.

Please remeber where this speculation/discussion originates. Berger. Is he really qualified to be a Leaf insider?

Would you go work for a company because there was a mid-level management guy you really liked but the rest of the company was pretty much dysfunctional?

I would hope not.

This is a request he had made while being employed by the Florida Panthers, so clearly he would.

Gotta credit Melnyk for sticking with Murray. I'm sure Melnyk applied some sound business logic to this one.

Maybe just maybe Leaf fans will be rewarded the same way with Burke.......

I wouldn't bet on that. Melnyk stuck with Murray because he realized who really built that Cup winning team in Anaheim.

So because he did it with the Panthers 10 years ago or whenever it was, he'd do it again? Different times, era and control factors at play here.

I just don't think anyone volunteers to go to Toronto these days, so we'll agree to disagree.

Sorry. Went back to Berger's thread and re-read. The topic is the result of a scientifically precise poll conducted by the law firm of Berger, Simmons, and Cox.

I always love hearing people bash a goalie with a career .919 sv%, a gold medal and a trip to the cup finals.

Funny how much the media can change the simple fans mind.

Luongo would bring two positives to the Leafs. One, he's a huge improvement over who they have now and two, his cap hit is manageable.

The rest of the story however, isn't so joyful. His contract lasts for far too long, he's 33, he has a NTC, he would still cost a lot to acquire and his playoff resume isn't so great despite being behind one of the best teams in the league.

It's clear that he would be an improvement, as you can see his numbers when he played for piss poor Florida, but the negatives outweigh the positives. Acquiring Luongo would be a desperation move from Burke to once again abandon the future and save his own ass.

Ya but what about this ....

In September 2011, Luongo was inducted into the Italian Walk of Fame in Toronto, Ontario

Yes, moving Federov's contract and acquiring Beauhiman, Marchant, Pronger, May, Neidermayer and more had nothing to do with it. Yes, i know Neidermayer was an easy acquisition cuz of his brother.

We've been down this road before; Murray left very strong pieces in place but there is no way the line up Murray left wins a Cup.

It is long but I don't think he's lacing them up for those last 3 years at about 1 milly per year. So really it's a 7 yr deal. If a top 10-15 goalie was to hit the market this summer I'm sure he'd be offered 7+ years as a UFA so is it really that bad? Plus like you say the cap hit is great.

I'm sure he'll be house hunting in Toronto the day after the Canucks get knocked out.

Getzlaf, Perry, MacDonald, Giguere, Pahlsson, Kunitz, Penner, Moen, Rob Niedermayer...

Yeah, I'd say Murray did his fair share and definitely the better candidate to rebuild a team.

He's 33, if he chooses to retire before his contract ends, his contract is off the books, isn't to much of a gamble. Vancouver is not that good of a team, highly overrated, and mostly in the position they are in at seasons end because of Luongo. They would not make the playoffs if it was not for him. Same goes for the Rangers, elite goaltending does wonders for your playoff hopes.

He would not cost that much to acquire given the fact that the Canucks are going to have to dish out a nice salary to Schneider for never having played more then 35 games in a season, him being benched in the playoffs, and his contract.

If Burke made this move, it would be the best move he could make for the Leafs, all you have to do is look back at the Canucks before they acquired Luongo, he gave them a chance to improve the whole team through stability.

The Leafs should be more concerned with finding the NEXT top 10 goalie rather than trying to acquire one who is fading out of the picture. This is why the Leafs can never seem to get ahead. They're focus is always on who is good right now instead of who will be good tomorrow.
