CSN says reports say his equipment isn't in his locker stall. - Scottie Upshall
The Flyers are nuts if they let Grossmann play today. They can win this Series without him. We need him for the rest of the playoffs.

Anderson and Holtby are getting tons of help aren't they? Facing a shooting gallery every game. - PLindbergh31
When Boston wins the battles down low they score on Holtby, Samething with Anderson. Although Anderson did make some good saves, I'll still say I've seen Bryzgalov make just as quality of saves.
If you wanna base solely on stats, yea those guys are great. But when you go look at the rebound support and time and space deprived of the shooter they face there's a big difference. Also that Caps/bruins game was 3-3 going late in the third.
You can't tell me the Flyers and Pens have been playing as tight as all those other teams either. In fact no one decided to play defense until game four of this series: the penguins. The Flyers decided to do so last game and the score was much more reasonable. |

It's not always easy to elevate the puck in close quarters like that. I choose to give MAF credit for making big saves there instead of faulting Briere. |

Kubina is up ice for some reason, I forget why. You can't see on the replay. But Kubina correctly moves back towards the goal, Simmonds should have rotated back up high to his point coverage. But he didn't. Instead he wandered towards the front of the net. I guess he saw it as uncovered. This left the point area wide open. - MJL
The problem is that Kubina starts to rotate when the play is on his side and Simmonds is not even looking up ice. Never mind what is supposed to happen - its already messed up,don't leave a forward open while you try to make things happen the "way they should be". I blame him a lot for that goal.
That line needs to spend more time on the offensive zone. They are constantly getting pinched in. |

I can't agree Joe. I see guys in other series stealing games constantly. Look at the talent level on Phoenix compared to Chicago. Smith has stole just about every game in that series. |

I think that is correct choice. But in a general sense, it's funny how the choice goes depending on whether a player is liked or not. I think 9 times out of 10 in that situation, Briere will bury that.

Perhaps I am giving Simmonds too much benefit of the doubt there. I thought he was covering the net in case of a shot and rebound. |

talent level can be negated if you play the system, The 95 finals are an example of this. That Detroit team was much better on paper and got destroyed buy a trapping, checking Devils team. |

Flyers have won 3 games to 2 so far in this Series. Does it really matter whether Bryzgalov has stolen any of the game so far, in those wins? Does it really matter how the Flyers win one of the next 2 games, as long as they do?

Has nothing to do with me liking Briere or not. Had it been any member of the Flyers in the same situation I would say the same thing. |

I would play him in game 7 without question if he can play at all and has med clearance. I see the situation a lot more desperate than you do because of all the injuries, esp to Bryz. I think its a 50-50 series now, frankly, and its 50-50 only because Flyers are ahead. If this was game 7, I would say I would give Pens a 75% chance of finishing us off. |

Nope it doesn't. But imo they are going to need the goaltender to play well to win today, and will absolutely need him to steal the game in a game 7. Just my opinion, but that's the way I see it. |

I'm sure that's what his thought was there, but it was the wrong choice. That's not a lack of effort, but simply a mistake. They happen to everybody.

Bryzgalov played well in game 5. I'll take the same game from him today, and I think the Flyers will win. And the Flyers have just as good a chance to win a game 7 as the Pens do.

A game 7 certainly calls for more desperation. But this isn't game 7. And I still see a players long term health as more important then even a game 7. And game 7 would still be 50-50 in my opinion.

When he gets the help like the other goalies are getting I will. - JoeRussomanno
My take:
Flyers D hasn't been good enough and the goalie is obviously hindered by injury (I'd still take injured-Bryz over Bob). They were able to make up for their depleted Defense and injured goalie by scoring lots of goals on a Pens team that was playing worse D and had poorer goaltending. The Pens resorted to goon tactics to beat-up some of the Flyers effective players (I think Schenn, Coots and Roo may be playing with concussion symptoms and Grossman is out). The Pens goon tactics took a toll, their goaltending improved and they tightened up their defensive game. Giving up 10 goals shook a young battered Flyers team. The Flyers played a solid game 5, were ineffective 5 on 5 and played a poor second period.
It seems unlikely that the Bryz will steal a game for the Flyers in the near future. I was disgusted by the 10-3 loss but actually feel a little reassured by the improved game 5 they played. Maybe things were just getting a little too easy for this team? Maybe the 10-3 loss was the punch in the face they needed? I hope so. They have two games to win one...the odds are in the Flyers favor.

How would game 7 be 50-50? You have a goalie who is at best 70%, another who is getting hot. Your best D-man in the series is out. A Vet D (Kubina) is very impaired. Another top 4 guy (Meszy) is long out. The top 3 of our D would be absolutely pooped. Danny has a bad back and other injuries which keep him from his usual hustle. You have young players who are clearly feeling the pressure against a vet team which came down from 3-2 to win the Stanley Cup, playing in their building. They would be on a 3 game roll.
50-50 is an assessment of faith, not of reason. |
