that contract makes Luongo's look good.

I would do the Malone deal, at least his contract is over in a few years.

Regardless Vancouver is going to have to take on a bad contract from someone to offset Luongo's with either a draft pick or prospect.

Guys on sportsnet were talking about Komiserek and a prospect for Luongo and I thought the same thing. Most teams who would want Luongo are going to have to trade dollars for dollars.

Benefit to Vancouver is they get a contract like Malone or Komi off of their books in 2-4 years instead of 10 years like Luongo.

- Smitty98

If its Komi, then we better be getting the 5th pick overall with it. Despite the contract, Lu is still an elite goalie who would a considerable amount to that position to any team in need of a goalie. Tossing us your trash comes at a cost and no, Schenn is not the answer......

But until the CBA's finalized and the cap number is (truly) known... its a gamble right now for any big contracts to be moved... thats what makes this draft and subsequent deals so hard to negotiate...

LUongo only has 4 or 5 decent years left best case scenario and he makes 5.3 on the cap hit until 43 years old. Obviously one would hope he will retire before that but who knows.

To me that isn't great trade value for an old goalie. A 5th overall draft pick for Luongo is way overpayment. Do you deserve a decent prospect? Probably but not a 5th overall pick in the draft. We're talking Luongo, not Schneider.

Doug Mclean thinks Vancouver should give up a prospect just for another team to take him so there are a lot of thoughts and feelings to this. Obviously most Vancouver fans are going to ask for the moon and most people like myself who don't believe Luongo is that great of a goalie will want less. I honestly don't want him on my team at all.

Trade him anywhere but Toronto. I think he's awful as someone who's been a goaltender for 15 years.

But without bias factoring in. I think you should be able to get a half decent prospect while taking back another bad contrcat for the next 2-4 years.

Malone is a toss in for cap reasons... his value is non-existent.

what do you expect anyways? It's not like I'm going to throw out proposals that favour the other team vs the Canucks.

So cap dump vs cap dump AND the Nucks get a top 5 1st rounder.. Yeah

You're right, if his contract ended in 5 years. He would have a lot more value for sure. The fact that it goes until he's 43 is going to lower the return significantly.

Luongo is 33, not 27. Sorry nucks fans. Gotta be realistic here.

Luongo isn't a cap dump... he's a consistent 30 win goalie, vezina finalist. Malone is a cap dump chump.

Many teams would be drooling over the potential of having Luongo for the next 5-6 years... the ball is in the Canucks court, contrary to what many of you think.

His cap hit of 5.3 mill until 43 years old hurts his trade value. That's not disputable.

He has a label of choking in the playoffs. That's not disputable.

He's a strong reg season goalie. That's not disputable.

If you want to ask for the moon, trade your early 20's goalie, not your mid 30's goalie with a horrible contract.

If you want to keep your goalie who has 15 years ahead of him which would be the smart move. You're going to have to be realistic on the return of Luongo. Some hockey analysts are saying Vancouver will have to give up a prospect just to get rid of Luongo so that should tell you where his trade value stands.

For 2-3 years (maybe). As you guys now know, its a gamble to sign goalie for that long... Ask the Islanders about that... (no i'm not comparing Depietro to Luongo) just the contracts...

and 50-60 percent of goalies have their play stop dropping off after 36-37 (Turco, Fernandez) Start battling injury issues etc

Goalies at 38-40 I would say 75-80 percent of them significantly have their play drop off plus injury issues etc.

Obviously they're exceptions to the rule like Brodeur and Roloson but even then you cannot argue they are not as good as they were 5 years ago.

So to take on a goalie at 33 who honestly only has 2 or 3 years of prime hockey left before age starts to catch up with him and has a 10 year contract? Yikes......

If Luongo was 27 or 28 and had a 10 year contract. I would have a lot less issues with him. Or if Luongo guaranteed retirement at 38 years old. Again I'd feel better.

But what if he's stubborn and doesn't want to leave the NHL......... feel bad for the team that has to deal with that situation.

5.3m per year for a starting goalie is a great cap hit. Not sure what planet you are coming from with that one.

The Canucks aren't just going to give away Luongo, not a chance. Starting goalies don't just grow on trees.

My bet his return will be top 6 player with cap hit 3.5-4.5...prospect + a pick.

Bob, Darren and Doug might think differently, but I'll take my chances.

I think that you'll be surprised as to what Luongo will fetch considering the importance of the position but I do expect a pretty good prospect in return. And Doug Maclean is a big mouth who went to the Mike Milbury school of GM'ing, so I'd take his word with a grain of salt.....

a great cap hit if your goalie is in his late twenties, not early 40's. What planet are you coming from?

I really don't care where he goes as long as it isn't Toronto. We don't need anymore awful contracts of overhyped and overrated goalies.

I'd rather see them make a pitch for Lindberg from Nashville.

Yeah I don't agree with Mclean either and obviously LUongo's return is going to hit somewhere in the middle.

Again I see Vancouver taking on a bad contract to offset the dollars. Like a Ryan Malone along with a mid range prospect. That's about it.

If you guys want the moon than trade Schenider but Luongo just doesn't have the trade value you guys want him to have.

a 43 year old making a cap hit of 5.3 mill is not desirable. Sorry
